Does anyone suffer?

For a few months now I’ve had a real ache in my left arm, extending from my elbow down the front of my forearm to my wrist. I had assumed tennis elbow only affected the joint itself, but reading the symptoms it sounds like it might be this?

I have had two bouts of tennis elbow, severe pain was only at the elbow, Not the joint but its an inflammation of the tendon attached to the bone, Great pain trying to lift even a cup of tea, but no pain at all lifting with the palm facing up, It's a long job and needs rest. Tennis elbow sited on the outside of the elbow, Golfers elbow is the tendon on the elbow inner side.

It could also be golfers elbow! I had that for a year or so recently. One is the inside of the elbow joint, Golfer's, I think, the other the outer. I think the exercises differ slightly for each so it might be worth making sure you know which it is before doing any. The NHS site has some good routines to use.

I have had it, more of an annoying dull pain than a sharp pain, around the elbow and all down the outside of the forearm. Ache around the wrist.
Put up with it for a couple of weeks then had it blasted with ultrasound, couple of sessions a few days apart and it went away.

Try and work out what's causing it as well.
I just presumed mine was caused by using a hammer but the physio said it was because I pick my toolbox up from the floor and move whilst twisting it so I stopped doing that and it's not come back again!

I use a hockey ball to roll out the soreness in the tendon. Combine with rest and ice and that's what works for me.

Thanks for all the info - yeah this is more a dull ache then anything else, right down the front of my forearm. I was hoping it might just pass but I had a couple of hours trimming a hedge the other day and it’s made it worse, so I think I really need to get it looked at.

Im not sure what might have triggered it initially, I don’t remember anything specific but rather i just kind of “noticed” it one day if that makes sense?

I believe it is a RSI, putting strain onto the tendon attachment, usually caused when doing something extra to your normal work, Excessive prolonged hammering etc.

My tennis elbow was caused by sports but aggravated by mouse work, I moved my mouse to the other hand and it cleared up a lot faster

I am right handed but now always mouse left handed which has the added benefit of other people not wanting to sit at my PC as the wired mouse doesn't want to move to the right

Yes, I intend to do exactly that, given that it doesn’t seem to have cleared up. I was just musing at how I thought tennis elbow was really just affecting the joint, whereas it seems it’s actually more affecting the whole arm.

I used to get it from time to time when I did a lot of kayaking. If it is tennis (outer side), as opposed to golfers there is a rehab exercise called the tyler twist. You need to get hold of a Theraband Flexbar or improvise something. It's all to do with slowly relaxing the muscle.

I had Golfers elbow in both elbows, doc gave me Naproxen (like Ibuprofen but stronger anti-inflammatory) - no use at all even after a month, ditto small armbands with pressure points.
Then I went online and found some YT videos showing how to massage it -it was better within a week or so. I also finally figured out what motion at work was causing it and changed that, gone completely for a couple of years now.

tennis elbow and golfers. had an operation on one and 3 lots of injections .ease up on what you are doing otherwise it will just aggravate it. get injection if it persists and learn from it

My issue is I don’t know what’s actually caused it, I haven’t been doing anything particularly strenuous (other than the hedge trimming the other day which seems to have aggravated it, but wasn’t the original cause). Most of my work is done on a pc, and I’m predominantly right handed so don’t use the left for mouse etc I think the first thing is to get a proper diagnosis and go from there, but it seems at least there’s a good chance it might be golfers/tennis elbow - hopefully as you say identifying the cause (as baffling as it seems to me right now!) will help prevent further bouts.

Seriously though I've had it so bad a few years ago I couldn't pick up a pint glass
I've got a touch of it now in my left elbow both tennis and golfers
And as @hotponyshoes its picking up my tool bag dozens of times a day and twisting my arm to put the strap on my shoulder.

I had tennis elbow years ago and had injections and they hurt more than the tennis elbow and I still get it occasionally. Resting it is the only thing that works but now I'm retired that's no problem.
