Growing up we weren’t allowed to have a knife other than one for fishing. Dad use to tell us when he was growing up only the Daigos carried knives!

The poorly educated people - now make knives from freezing water in a mould with a small percentage of household bleach to kill DNA evidence. After the stabbing they just throw it down and all the evidence melts away.

You just would not take any notice of a person with a crash helmet on - carrying an insulated food carrier - late at night. You would think he was delivering takeaways. Beware he maybe an assassin...

I think mythbusters put that one to bed, impossible. Of course Georgy Markov was shot with a poisoned pellet in London and didn't even know it.

Unless you are at work as a 'fire and rescue' person, I doubt that most cops would accept that's a 'good reason' to be carrying that 24/7 on yourself or in a vehicle.

I don't agree with them but I think that we are stuck with finding alternatives, such as the non locking UKPK penknife shown earlier and a 'tactical pen' with a glass breaker on the end.

Yes, the UKPK looks pointy etc and I'm sure that some cops would still want to confiscate it or make an arrest but you would have more of a 'leg to stand on' if it went to court than a knife that locked the blade open.

Ahhhhhh! Sticky one that. In a vehicle? As in, not carried by or on a person. If it is in the boot it is no contest, you are transporting it. Where to? Where would you like to transport it to? If this were not the case. every knife and I do mean every knife would have to stay in the shop, or in the manufacturers warehouse even otherwise you would not be able to buy those steak knives I was on about earlier.
If it is in the boot or the back of the car(if it was an estate car for instance) it would be almost impossible to prove mal intent. If it was in the glovebox, likewise. There is precedent for this I believe. If it was just flyingf about on the dashboard though that could get sticky. Unless of course it was a machete as that is definitely a tool so you must be going to work. Innit.

Qualified SAR tech, it’s zipped up in a bag with the first aid kit , throw bag etc. We will see if I ever get shafted for it. It has a window breaker, seatbelt cutter etc. Frankly if I was going to to someone in with the contents of my truck it would be with the hi lift handle, or pick axe shaft. Bit longer reach

You made an interesting point above - actually a very valid point...

I have seen police programs on TV - when they stop and search vehicles and get all excited when they find knives and hammers in the boot of a car.

But to be honest - I can see no real reason why you can't transport tools in you car - safely in the boot - I see this as a legitimate reason.

I think that there's a bit more to the 'transporting' aspect, a receipt with the date/time on it would be needed for example,.....you just can't constantly keep/carry a locking or fixed blade knife even in the boot of a vehicle,.....just in case of a breakdown etc would most likely not be 'good reason' enough.

I partake in a range of hobbies where the risk of someone becoming trapped in a rolled or flooded vehicle, or tangled in ropes is a very real thing, that’s enough justification for me. Just because something is law doesn’t make it right. A none locker is dangerous in my opinion

I do agree with you,....a lock on a folding knife is a safety feature in my eyes, in a way I'm surprised that the H&S bods haven't demanded that all non locking knives should be banned/destroyed by now.

I have a small toolbox locked in my car, it has very basic tools and a Stanley just in case some ones trapped via a seatbelt plus if I need it I can unlock the box and use it

I do agree with you,....a lock on a folding knife is a safety feature in my eyes, in a way I'm surprised that the H&S bods haven't demanded that all non locking knives should be banned/destroyed by now.

Also a key feature of that knife is that it can be opened easily with one hand

To be honest I don't own a pencil sharpener - I always do it with a knife.

We are living in climate - where edged knifes and things with points are looked at not in the same light as me or you would see them...
