I'd say it wasn't good at all. A lot of carers do it for the love of a relative/partner. Them caring for said person themselves is probably saving the local authority/NHS a lot more than £240 a month.

To be fair caring for somebody full time they deserve a holiday I'd say. Going to Tenerife is hardly a luxury holiday/cruise to the Bahamas.

Yes and no.
There's at least two types on benefits.
People who need it and people to whom it's a career choice.

And the former far outweigh the latter.......however, the largest group by a long way are, like myself, the retired....most of whom have paid into the scheme for many years but still are classed as taking benefits.......and yet still get scorn from some people.

I don't think anybody has an issue with the welfare state helping the retired - I personally don't - I actually think it is what the country should be doing with the tax they collect.

When I was child - there was a family who lived near us who's parents did not work - they were on benefits - they were not rich. The Father had issues - I am not sure - if he could work or not. He never worked - ever - never contributed anything to society - not a penny - maybe thru no fault of his own - maybe not? But the day he reached retirement age - he became a pensioner - he became a respected member of society like every other retired old man.

My personal opinion is that your situation as quoted above is how it should be - if you don't pay in the government don't pay out. There is obviously a few exceptions to the rule but most would still be fit enough to do some form of work to allow them to pay in

I do however find it a great shame that retired folk should even need to claim benefits. All those years of hard work and (assuming they did) paying into a pension to then still be left without enough money to live on

I dont mind whay folk know.

I earn as a driver on min wage more than the sub transport manager lol. And he knows what i am on.

Ah but then i do a few more hours lol.

All us drivers here earn different wages as it depends on the hours our runs take as we are paid by the hour. Some do 7hr days sone like me 13hrs. None of us mind as we are happy with it.

Thats how it works upto a point....you have to pay in for 35 years (I think) to qualify for the full pension (which is why the term "benefits" annoys me)

Fortunately I have a private pension but Im still entitled to the state pension.......which will probably have Appy Harry frothing at the mouth

I have been lucky enough not to be damaged by war - physically or mentally

I have been lucky enough that my parents made me go to school and do my home work

I have been lucky enough to have work and create work for myself

I have been lucky enough to be able to save for my old age

I have been lucky enough to not suffer from addictions

I have been lucky I have roof over my head and I get to sleep in a warm bed

I have been lucky my children have been born with no health problems

I have been lucky we don't have civil war in the UK and I am a refugee

I agree.The state pension is what you have earned all through your working life while the benefit scroungers know the system. They don`t get up at 6.00am in the morning to go to work ! All they do is wait for Monday when their beer money comes in. The system needs to change!!!!!

Well said....and if a few abuse the privilege, so what, its a small price to pay....but dont allow the few to dominate your thoughts or consider spoiling it for everyone else....you never know you might genuinely need it yourself one day.
