Combination spanner quality/prices

Thieves steal expensive shiny quality tool faster than tatty but useable ones .

I've only ever broken one spanner since I started my work life in 1966 & that was belting an open jaw spanner taped to high tensile bolt head on a bulkhead between a vertical stanchion . If I could have got to the nut easily I doubt I would have broken anything .

Not as far as I know. They have a more comprehensive range of tools than ever and still proudly made in the west mids

I needed a 2nd 9/16 long ended up with a Kennedy as snap on wanted £42!!!!

I got mine from zoro and a few others for under a tenner

Iv had to engrave them as the new apprentice has the same kit as mine from his dad

I have only bent a spanner and lost
4, 3/8 ratchets
2, 1/2 ratchets all from Halfords as my fine tooth snap ons are saved for doing bolts up or off once cracked. Iv learned the hard way arguing with the snap on man

They are slowly changing a lot of their ranges to imports, AFAIK. Like the polished shiny ratchets, screwdrivers and a few other things. Still good quality. Other ranges, like pliers, are rebadged knipex, which is no bad thing.

My problems (and a few people have had the same) is that I order something, say like a 1/2"SD hex key set, and 2 weeks later they apologise to the distributor saying that they are "out of stock on 17mm and will be 6 weeks before the next production run". I've had that excuse three times in the last 12 months, like they don't keep anywhere enough forward stock. It just smacks of poor management in a world today when everyone wants their stuff here and now.
