sip 130 migmate turbo..no motor wire feed!!!

Hi everyone!

I'm new to the forum, and wondered if you guys can help me with a problem that arose today.
My SIP was working fine and has been no problem at all. Then all of a sudden, I pick up the torch to continue and.....nothing!

There's power..the fan still runs. The motor that drives the wire feed is ok because I disconnected it and tested it independantly. When I pull the trigger it does not start the motor. When I took off the cover, I can see the contact in the little clear plastic switch contact thing, opening and closing (well going up and down!), so I assume the trigger is making contact ok, but the drive does not kick in as normal.

Can anyone help me please? Can I buy replacement parts, or is it a throw away job?

There's a really easy thing you could try first - flip all the switches on the front panel backwards and forwards a few times in case one is stuck open.

From there check if there's voltage between the contact tip and earth lead when you pull the trigger. If there is the fault will be circuit board or wiring to the wire feed motor. Aren't any fuses on that circuit board are there? Circuit boards are possible to buy, and some members have powered the wire feed independently from the circuit board for smoother welding.

Thank you Malcolm. There are no fuses, but i'll try flipping the switches on the front panel and hope for the best. A new CB sounds expensive, so I'm praying I can fix it!

Hi mine did the same last month . When i changed the power setting i did not push the switch in far enough. So i would aggre with malcom

If you can see the contacts in the relay, do they look black / burnt? - may just need cleaning.

Guys, thanks for your advice. Malcolm was spot on! The rocker switch was at the half way mark! Bit spooky really, cos one minute im welding away, put the torch down for 30 seconds, pick it up again....nothing!!

There must be a ghost!!

Well fixed! That one has popped up on here before a couple of times - I think it might have been Weldequip who was the first to suggest it as a fix. Baffling if you don't know they do that.

So. Photos of the project? Bus by any chance?

My brothers 130 does that, had it stripped to try and sort it before i found that flipping the first switch solved that particular prob.My 105 thats almost identical has never had that problem

I've a '66 RHD 11 window split VW. Been working on it for a few years on and off. Just recently found myself some nice spacey storage so picking up the baton again at long last!

I'll post up some photos when I get a mo' ( Obviously I'll only show the better welds!!.

my usually trustworthy Migmate Turbo 130 wouldnt feed or strike an arc, sure enough one of the rocker switches was in a ‘mid’ position!
