I did my apprenticeship with the guy on the right, (no hard hat on) - he was the electrification manager for network rail at the time and was the project manager for the top gear stunt!top gear did one what a waste of time really
the uk waste of time advert
personaly it needs this
maybe if drivers lost there vehicle for 3 month for driving through any red light would they take note then ?
Surely it'd be the same technology as the cameras on traffic lights they have for running red lights, just make the fines/points much heftier, then two offences and it's a driving ban.
people lose their lives doing it - doesn't make other people take note.
the dead ones never repeat the offence, though.
Just ban them outright on the first offence. I dont know the chances of a car causing a derail, but they could be putting hundreds of peoples lives at risk in one go...Surely it'd be the same technology as the cameras on traffic lights they have for running red lights, just make the fines/points much heftier, then two offences and it's a driving ban.
Crushing the cars that run the lights would get some attention
Not just motorists that are oblivious.
How close was this.
Came up in a compilation video a while back.
No one mentioned the poor train driver with X dead people in front of him, Crushing the cars that run the lights would get some attention
The crossing in my village takes an age. Usually 3 or 4 mins for a train then continue waiting for another few minutes for a train the other way before they lift.A thought; there will be an amount of time where if the barriers have come down and a train hasn't crossed, people will start to wonder if they're broken/there's a problem. Might be a few minutes, might be an hour, whatever, the duration is academic but the longer the wait, the more likely it will be there are issues.
Perhaps there are instances where repeated longer wait times increase the chances of people trying to cross. Maybe a better crossing/timing system would help disincentivise people from jumping/ reassure people a train really is just around the corner.
Maybe there's a balance, shorter wait times increase risk of one type of accident but decrease risk of people jumping.
All that said, it would have to be a pretty bizarre situation before I ever went for it.
