No moving parts apart from the flue damper and the front door...

I reckon I'd need some steels in the loft to support it

Like Maz, if I was on my own I'd probably like something like that, but with 7 stinky kids I think I might stick with a combi

@Barlidge I had the same problem with our Worcester Bosch from new. As it was under warranty the heat exchanger and PRVs were changed all to no avail. They determined the leaks were from the central heating pipe work even though we couldn’t find any such leaks.
We binned off British Gas who had installed the boiler, maintained and repaired it. We went with a local guy who straight away said it was the expansion tank but it was expensive to replace as it required a lot of labour to virtually strip the boiler to replace this one part and instead suggested an external tank, which is the red vessel in the pic. No pressure loss since.

Cheers, its defo not the EV though, I also checked that myself and eliminated the pipework. I'm familiar with the sealed system as I built my own 80 tube solar array for an above ground pool a couple of years ago.

Lived all my life in a house with a Rayburn so I guess I’m used to it... not going to lie, it’s hard work but I do prefer the dry heat to the radiators and central heating at my wife’s place...

Only 6 moving parts or something, and something like a 6 week lead time on any spares

Only one way to find out... The heating engineer recommended a combi purely so the DHW circuit services the kitchen tap (which is right next to the boiler) and the CH circuit carries on as before, going to a diverter valve in the airing cupboard where the HW cylinder lives. So we have a very short pipe run from boiler to kitchen tap and near instantaneous HW, and the cylinder only services the bathroom. Expansion vessel is external, so easy to get at and replace if the worst comes to the worst.

Well wont be a quick fix as my plumber is booked up for a few weeks and I'd prefer to wait for him, he's affiliated with Glow Worm but he's happy to fit whatever I choose. I can get my caravan out of storage and park that on the drive to use for showers and I already have a couple of oil filled rads in the shed if the weather takes a turn so maybe the kids will learn to respect what they have been fortunate enough to grow up with and take for granted

I have been looking and reading up and like the look of the Honeywell Evohome zone system, not cheap but seemingly very good at zone control and honing efficiency, any experience on here of it? I'm not interested in geofencing or adaptive learning controls as with the random comings and goings of my lot I think one of those would probably loop itself to destruction.

Another interesting read is OpenTherm - doesn't seem to be a lot of support in the main brands though so again wonder if anyone here has experience of it?

I'm going to spec an intergas hre for my new mixed mode heating system at casa del wife... I liked the simplicity of being able to use it as a combi or a conventional, and the low part count.

I keep meaning to make a start with evohome. It makes the most sense at casa del wife because we like various rooms at different temperatures, and the house is occupied pretty much 24/7 so the heating is on most of the winter and just set on the stat depending on day/night.

A timer is of zero use for her in the concrete block house on top of a hill

Opentherm is a good concept but it's not ready yet

Evohome is probably the best system of that type currently available
