Just been offered a brand new two stage, not cheap but reasonably priced but expiry 2011. Would you chance it (for private use)?
Won’t be a problem unless it goes bang
exactly, and that's the problem... insurance etc, all love stuff like that....
There’s a rubber diaphragm in the regulators that breaks down with time. 5 years is a bit OTT if it only sees hobby use.
Regulators aren’t that expensive.
I wouldn’t use one over 10 years old. They’re cheap enough to replace.
The main thing is back your regulator off after use to preserve the diaphragm
Yours have been 45yrs old for as long as i've been here and that 10 yrsmine are 45 years old but haven't had a lot of use and in good nick go for it if the price is right . point the date out and barter them down if you can
must be more then time flies when your having fun ,had them since I was 17 and now 65 so near enough they were second hand when I got them so god knowsYours have been 45yrs old for as long as i've been here and that 10 yrs
You old soldier youmust be more then time flies when your having fun ,had them since I was 17 and now 65 so near enough they were second hand when I got them so god knows
Why do the manufacturers put date stamps on them then, I first did my gas equipment inspectors course nearly 30 years ago and it was a requirement thenI did a gas safety training course a few years ago part of which was inspecting regulators for damage. There was no requirement back then to change every 5 years, only if it was damaged. I'm using an out of date Murex dual stage reg on my welder & it's miles better in build quality than the cheap one it replaced!
