Ive always just welded my own steels, but its normally just mounting plates, feet, and tabs to fix joists too, so not really weight bearing, in the way they are in the picture.
Only tabs this time, not really required but engineer does like to over complicate simple things.
I once looked at a barn conversion, lovely house, but walked away as the exposed steels were held with bird poo. Guy who bought it had them redone.
Im happy to do non structural, im just afraid of liability
That's crazy I hate regulation but have come to be more comforted by it
