They have offered me a replacement machine this morning for "piece of mind" - I've replied that that provides me with no peace of mind whatsoever as their service is still shocking and that I want a full refund. I did say that yesterday too though so we'll see what happens next.

I did that earlier on, they told me (via twitter) to contact customer services. I'll have another go though.
Head back to twitter and have a moan about customer services. They'll soon give you a refund to get rid of you. Equally, giving your credit card company some hassle would work.

Please remember that the Axminster and other similar makes will have come out of the same factory as the Clarke!
I have the Axminster version of the Clarke CBS7MB - they are identical - much heavier duty bit of kit. Bought mine used for £300 many moons ago. They are great.

I’ve got this one too and it’s pretty good. It cut on the wonk for ages but after shimming up the vice it’s fine now.
I’ve also had the Clarke one, and tbh that was pretty good too after a little fettling.
The blade cover on the Clarke hinges open, but the Axminster one is screwed on which is a bit of a pain when the blade keeps on coming off, but all in all I’m very happy with it.
I didn't actually have a problem with the machine, it's the way MM have handled the whole thing. I can probably live with an identical or very similar machine from a different supplier.
Have looked at an Axminster - the littlest one I think, https://www.axminster.co.uk/axminst...5shd-swivel-head-metal-cutting-bandsaw-700103 it's a possibility but currently scouring ebay and gumtree..

When I got there I realised I'd paid with my debit card rather than credit card so everything I'd said to customer services about taking it up with my credit card supplier was nonsense. Oops.
Called in to Axminster on my way home and had a look at what they had to offer. They're a fair bit more expensive but seem to be better built. Especially the stand, which was flimsy and **** on the Clarke but seems much more solid on the Axminster.

The saw itself is pretty much the same as the Clarke unit but mounted on a better base as you say with a swivel vice and has the benefit of a hydraulic controlled feed. The extra £90 or so above the Clarke price I think is money well spent for the added benefits in a side by side comparison. I have been tempted to sell my two Clarke saws and buy that one simply because of the swivel vice.

I really don't understand the short-sightedness of rubbish customer service. If they had fallen over themselves to apologise and refund/replace immediately you would have been on here relaying what a great experience (shame about the lousy product) - the end cost to them would have been much less in terms of lost good will.

Very much this. The product in general isn't bad. And mistakes happen in the manufacturing process. If they had turned it around in a few days or even offered a loan saw while they fixed it then I'd have been happy, and I'd have gone back. As it is it feels like they've gone out of their way to make the experience as bad as possible and now I'll go out of my way to avoid using them, even if that means significant extra expense to me.
I just don't understand why they aren't better at this.

I can empathise... we have its big brother, the CBS7MB at work and I don't enjoy using it all. It was supplied by the facilities management company that 'look after' the authority's secondary schools CDT equipment. It replaced the old Rapidor that one of the forum members here now has;
