I posted an 'engine crane wanted ad' on the appropriate forum but then decided I could make my own.
It was not for removing an engine but to try and straighten a 'strong metal part' that had been accidentally 'bent' out of shape....don't ask
So here are the pics of the 'machine' I fabricated from mostly 3mm wall tubing with smaller diameter tubing inside. The join in the main tubing was so I could twist the top 90 degrees to 'pull' horizontally but I didn't need to in the end....would have been stronger without this join too.
I bought an 8 ton hand pumped jack on EBAY (for £20 delivered!!) and set about straightening the offending part...
It did manage to do the job but I must admit the 8 ton ram was a wee bit too much for my 3mm build strength ...I had to add some extra steel via some clamps to stop the 'crane' from bending instead of my part!!
