I've always said we shouldn't have changed from the old cable colours just to "harmonize" with the rest of Europe. Now we're complely unharmonized even with our own wiring system with mixed colours throughout buildings now

Indeed. And any electrician moving to work in another country should be obliged to study there systems and regulations.

It's the live and neutral that's wired reverse polarity. Maybe it's not clear but the picture is the back of the 13A socket outlet on the unit!

That's a "TN" earthing system ^^^ and normal.

I would be making a serious complaint to Amazon with photo evidence stating how dangerous this is. You may get something out of the process.
Like you I'm sick and tired of the utter garbage that is flooding the market. Problem is paying more money doesn't always result in better quality
Sometimes you just end up paying more for the exact same piece of rubbish you could have bought cheaper. eBay is the worst for this.

I reported far worse than that to trading standards and they just don't care.
