I've had probably hundreds of tons of ballast, building sand and sharp sand from wickes over the years and it's always been spot on. I reckon you've been incredibly unlucky there. I'd get on to customer services if I were you and make a bit of a fuss. Don't bother going into a store as you'll have to deal with monkeys.

Last year I had a 1tone bag delivered to In Laws house.
Removed 22kg of dross.
Took it up with them, to be fobbed off. Until I goty the manager to show me another bag, he founds 4 largish stones in a few minutes.
I got a voucher for 15% of my next order.
Valid for 21 working days. It was never used.
That's wicks for you.

I went for some kiln dried sand and all the bags were wet 
I asked the assistant if they had any she said yes over there. err sorry no love they are all wet the whole pallet . I just said tell the manager to get rid of them all and get a fresh dry batch in

I used to deliver the odd load of aggregate to wickes stores , probably came from a quarry in Lechlade
But it seems you've found the source of the contamination
Was that quarry what straddled the main road from Swindon?
I have got decorative rocks from there if it was.

TYA refreshed my memory and checked google maps it was Hanson aggregates about 1/2 mile from the last roundabout on the A 417 out of lechlade going towards fairford .on the l/h side . They Allso supplied travis Perkins (who own wickes I believe ) and Bradfords builders merchants . That was about 6 or 7 years ago I did that work o they may of changed suppliers since then?
