I had a mig splatter perforate my ear drum. I shook my head to get the red hot ball out and made another hole ! 12 months of hospital visits, reduced hearing on one side and threat of surgery if it hadn't healed itself makes me wary careful of splatter now.

that's next level... mine was no where near as bad as that! Molten metal doesn't mix with skin...

In my yooof - Woke up very deaf after a Girls School gig in Camden, just put it down to volume abuse but it went on for days, mate who was with me asked if I had got all of the tissue paper out that I had stuffed in my ears which I was told by local Hells Angels posse to remove on threat of a good beating.. I was pretty hammerd and did not have much recollection of this.
Next day at the docs he was picking out bits of tissue, hearing restored!

A few years ago I went for a hearing test pressed by wife - not good, 40% down both ears. NHS hearing aid which I stopped using due to being totally crap within 2 weeks
Getting rid of wax properly can be quite a temporary improvement in my experience.

I need to grow up/old and get a decent hearing aid

I'm half deaf at the best of times but did notice things getting worse of late, initially thought it was my nhs ear trumpet playing up so managed to get an appointment for it to be checkd over, anyway it was fine and the problem was me and a bunged up lughole.
To address this issue I was told to go to the doctors surgery, which due to working away each day means having a day off which pees me off.
Ended up paying to have my ears vacuumed on a Saturday morning by a local independent audiology centre, both ears, 2 sessions and £60 lighter there is an improvement.
It's really strange but also very satisfying having a vacuum in your ear especially when it grabs hold of a piece of junk, sounds like you've just hoovered up a disposable glove.

Excuse me. I've not read all this post, just had a flick.

1. Never stick anything smaller than your elbow in your ear.

2. Warm olive oil, with your head on its side on the table, five minutes, kitchen towel. Better than anything over the counter. Get someone else to pour it in, honest

think yourself a little bit lucky with a little loss of hearing

ive got powerful hearing and can really hear alot of things even from different rooms to even being outside

ive heard more than my fair share of comments that id rather not hear sometimes

I had wax compacted in my ear from using earplugs at work and it caused me to lose my balance. I went to the doctors and they told me to use warm olive oil for a few days then come back and have them syringed. When they were done the contents of the bowl looked like soup and I walked outside onto High Street and promptly almost carped myself at the noise of traffic.

I occasionally have a good soak in the bath with my ears under the water then use one of those ear candles from Holland and Barrett.... you should see what comes out!!

I rarely use ear buds but even when I do it is clean so god knows how deep it goes but I daren't dig any deeper

The local quackery won’t syringe your lugs until you have used ear drops for at least a month prior , normally sorts itself out by then. Probably a method in their madness, that said you can go private and they will do it immediately . Immediately you give them the £35

I used to wear them at night offshore, so many door-slamming, corridor-talking knobbers on board. I’d also get the wax build up, so I carried a small syringe in my med kit, for sluicing my ears out every now and again.
Warm soapy water, a good few squirts, and some of the stuff that came out looked pretty obscene.

I once put some wax softener in, the evening before I was due to fly offshore, then woke up in the morning totally deaf in that ear. A quick 4am visit to A&E revealed nothing, and eventually I blocked my nose and blew hard to pressure up my ears, then in, then out, and eventually a cracking sound and my ear came good.

Wax had softened, then reformed neatly against the ear drum on that side....... I guess.
