How much is a used SIP 180ST worth?

Hi guys,

I have a friend in work selling a Sip 180ST mig welder that comes with a 3ft high co2 bottle, regulator and some wire. He has it wired to a 13amp plug and says it's only used for 2 or 3 jobs. It's probably around a year old and he has only used half the co2 in the bottle.

He's selling it but won't give me an answer about how much he wants for it! He'll just say "Make me an offer" probably because he isn't sure what it's worth... and neither am I lol

Opinions on what would be a good price please.

I'd offer £250-£300 for the welder itself, but if it's a rent free bottle that you can swap for refills locally (check this!) up to £300-£350, depending on how much you want it. It probably cost £450 new, give or take a bit, but it's not a particularly special welder for that kind of money, and £300 can buy you some nice machines from facebook marketplace. I'd be erring to the lower end of those prices if it were me.

EDIT: Just seen you're in Belfast, in that case the prices may be a bit higher...

I dunno. Basic units like that often go for £100 to £150.
There's one on ebay right now with a starting price of £150 that's had no bites.

I paid £90 for my SIP ten years ago (and sold it for something like the same, seven years later)

EDIT: Munkul's point about Belfast is valid, but I suspect it's still starting with 1...
Here's another (older) SIP in Derry at £200, which has also had no bites after 11 days.

Just have a good look at Sold listings on Ebay etc but as already mentioned its supply and demand if very few locally they will go for more

Thanks for the replies guys. The bottle is indeed rent free and being in Northern Ireland definitely limits my choices. There's been very few welders on gumtree this year at all never mind good ones. eBay is my usual goto but very few people are interested in anything other than local pickup.

So I offered my mate 300 then 320 the other day... he's "taken the hump" as we would say here and now the welder is no longer for sale Kinda thought that would be the way it would go, he's spent a load of money on something he hasn't used and is not willing to accept what the equipment is now worth.

Going to visit Modern Machinery in Lisburn this afternoon and see if they have anything I like, they supply several big name brands and also good used equipment which they warranty for 3 months.

Failing that it'll be a Clarke 151EN from Machine Mart

His own fault really, for not giving you a starting price to work with. It's a common syndrome, the "but it's worth...." one.

Got to remember though, the SIP 180 is a nicer machine to work with than a 151, or any of those similar cheap welders. If it's the same price as a 151, I'd take the SIP.

No idea what he would've taken for it probably north of £400 by his reaction. Think he paid £500 for the welder 2 years ago + £50 for a reg + £90 for the co2 bottle.

TBH the SIP 180 would've been a PITA for me as my garage is pretty small and I'll only be welding a few times a year so only would have been buying if it was a bargain. If i'm lucky I can get a 151 locally for around £230, I already own a full size reg so just need to get an argon/co2 bottle and I'm good to go.

Sip... personally I Wouldn't give the time of day for it . Plenty of better, more reliable welders out there

There's not many truly great welders in the price bracket the SIP fills and the SIP is by no means a great machine, but it would have been a good buy for £300.

...but for the £230 you say, the Clarke is probably the best in it's price bracket. Try for the TE version if you can... not much in it really but slightly better built.
