That’s a disappointment... Are they that brittle that they break if dropped or do you think that’s from a previous injury?

That's why it was in the scrap bin TYA removed it from.
Today, nothing, as the plane didn't come in.
a space on a bench for my lathe.

a 1930s ish very early 5p Holbrook Precision plain lathe.
serial number 4853, so before lathes.co.uk records.
I've taken the thread chasing mechanism off for the moment until i've settled on a place for it, and cleaned it up a bit.
trying to decide whether to remove the magnolia and racing green paint job before i mount it permanently.
i also have to sort out a motor mount for it, and a tool holder.
At the expense of sounding stupid...but I will ask anyway...
Those spanner’s are described as bed spanner’s. Originally I thought possibly named because they might be used on the bed of a lathe or milling machine. But,it seems they were actually made for tightening bolts on actual beds of the “ resting the insides of your eyelids” type. Am I correct with that ?
Jeez. All you need is a gut buster drill to go with it and you have all avenues of tying yourself in knots and killing yourself in a painful way covered...
That things a beast![]()
Now the stupid question bit. You said they could cover a range of four different size nuts. How? Are the hex’s not hex’s or do they taper down from one side to the other?

Very good condition. Not a bargain but not ripped off either.
For my old Colchester Triumph.
Cast iron or ally? That’s a very pleasing find!

Proper cast iron - they aren't exactly light.
I never thought I would find them.

Really nice bloke to deal with. Open to a haggle and has stuff that isn't advertised.
The fixed steady was on Ebay - when I bought it I asked if he had a travelling one and he found it pretty quickly.
Decent bloke shipped them both out before I paid for the travelling steady. Fantastic packing job!
Replicating them with a view to sell them? The casting may be doable but machining looks very difficult, you'd need a few different setups to machine the bottom face (With a vee grove), the angled holes and the hinge.
