I love how similar inside that td5 motor looks to a Perkins Prima...
O series -> Prima -> L series -> TD5yea funny that isnt it? evolution not revolution.
Mine in my MGZR was brill, if only the gearbox had held up to the torque and grip (a mate went through an average of a box a year - I have a little more mechanical sympathy). In my Rover 45 it lasted fine as the narrower tyres meant it would spin a wheel rather than shock load the box.The L series is the Rover 400 was incredible and very very reliable. Much better than the BMW engine they fitted to later Freelanders.

TD4 = bmw engineL series is a td4 not a td5 your one cylinder short of a picnic
I'm not talking about the bmw m47 engine (which is the TD4 motor), I'm talking about the L series diesel...4 cylinder td4
5cylinder td5
You sound like my mum, it’s a car it does the same job
Its a shame they didnt think more about access on the td5 in the d2. E.g. Try doing the duel pressure regulator. Simple job, just a few bolts but your hands are bruised and cut up due to access by the time you are done!
@Rannsachair my mate had one and just about the same mileage it dropped on power then started giving a few issues
I honestly think older style engines need to come back, would happily buy a brand new 25year old car compared to this modern junk
