We have angles welded stagard each side for that purpose plus it's thick and we fabricated ours to the correct length by gas cutting them and putting the end plates on

A lot of work involved setting that track up exactly in line with the joint.
Ours you just throw it up on the wonk and let the tactile seam sensor take care of the rest

What's the price difference out of curiosity?

Well at ESAB the miggtrac B501 worked with rubber wheels and you set it up to crab along the joint by setting the guide rollers at an angle. That was about £2k

The ESAB Railtrac worked on a rail and was digital like the lorch. But it was way way out there on price. About £15k if I remember correctly.

I’d imagine the lorch is somewhere in between but as Richard says it’s magnetic so can do vertical, flat, tubeyou name it.

Depends.
On a second hand gulco out of Westermans then obviously ours will be dearest.
However against a brand new gulco we can be surprisingly competitive.

It does AVC height sensing with tig you can fit it to a ring for pipe. It’s a really cool bit of kit.

Have you ever seen long 7024 iron powder rods burn using a gravity feeder (sometimes called a Ski).....we used to make rods from 600-900mm long....very easy and simple set up......one shipyard used to burn 24 at once on a beam.....doing egg box type deck plates......I cant find anyy photos

I would say for the average beam basher not much use unless you got lots of big end plates and web plates to weld but ok if I was making these plate girders day in day out I'd buy one in a heart beat

Excellent method to track the joint. Looks a doddle to set up.

You can get that tracking sensor with a ball on the end to for filling up a V grove. The only time it’s not going to work is capping off because it needs minimum 1 edge on the X axis to follow. Fillets and laps and even outside corners all day long.

I remember seeing some litriture with a tripod type arrangement burning some big long rods. Would that be a similar setup ?

this is actually a complicated version....usually no height adjustment.....you can determine the fillet size by the angle between feeder and joint....narrow and long and thin......wide angle gives fat short weld
