I suppose it goes back to the eighties when volvo were superiorMarketing seems to play a big role in how people see things.
Wasn’t there a report that said volvo’s aren’t any safer in an accident than any other car, but that was what most people thought.
I think it was late 90’s Merck’s that suffered terribly as they decided the earlier models were “too reliable” - they took a real hammering and they obviously had a change of heart. The Germans do not seem to fair too well bar Mercedes https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-n...ost-and-least-reliable-car-manufacturers-2018.
Must confess the Lexus reliability reputation played a big part in its selection. funny how it contrasts with my Defender, which I would class as reliable but high maintenance.

Wasnt that when they got bought out by Chrysler and became Daimler Chrysler for a short whileI think it was late 90’s Merck’s that suffered terribly as they decided the earlier models were “too reliable” - they took a real hammering and they obviously had a change of heart.
German Cars......I think it depends what you are comparing it against.....French are definitely worse.....Land Rover are the worst there is and have been consistentky for years (wonder if BUY BRITISH still applies now theyre making them in Slovakia or is it Slovenia).....Toyota have had loads of recalls....I think against that lot the German car is the most reliable.
Honds and Nissan may come out tops in the affordable section.....unless someone knows otherwise
I'm pretty sure the NCAP ratings are by category of car....but this isn't well publicised for obvious reasons.
So for example a 5 star fiesta isn't the same as a 5 star Volvo v70 or Audi A6!
Glad to hear it........No I havent owned a new one....Im not a deluded millionaire.......If LR have got their house in order, its about time. I really dont understand how they managed to keep going by selling highly unreliable, vastly overpriced cars. Why are land rover worse? Not these days they aren't!
Have you owned or driven the newer models?
Land Rover Discovery scored higher than many German cars.
I think so, late 90’s to mid 2000’s seem to have been when things went downhillWasnt that when they got bought out by Chrysler and became Daimler Chrysler for a short while
