Powercraft reciprocating saw - RIP

[Wozzaaah]

Cutting up a dead tree today, didn't get very far until the saw started acting up, like the trigger was slightly depressed when it was off, it started to get worse and smell funny, this was the result!
Not very dramatic but still worth grabbing the camera for. As you can see, the trigger is completely off!
Seem to recall my Powercraft drill suffering exactly the same fate!

If it's less than 3 years old you should get a replacement, if not I've got a chainsaw for sale - but at least it's meant to smoke!

No explosion!!!! Still working fine then!? I had a cheapo angle grinder pack up on me a week or so ago. Spat all it`s ball bearings out, fine i thought, just a bit noisey, untill it spat a gear out as well and sent the arbour and disc across the workshop.

I've got one of those bench grinder's with a wheel on one end and a belt sander on the other, was sanding some wood this afternoon, turned it off and belt slowed and stopped but wheel carried on running for a good 30 seconds! - methinks nut has come loose, will have a look tomorrow.

Bit of an anti-climax really Jay, just a pop you can just about hear on the end then that was it, nothing.
It's about 5 years old Stuart, not had much use but then it was cheap. Won't buy another though, if I need one I'll get a better one.
I used to be quite a fan of Powercraft stuff based on price vs performance but all 4 power tools I've bought have all died so it pretty much speaks for itself really.

I bet the Aldi buzzbox is still going strong though - apparently thats Powercraft's finest piece of engineering to date

I`ve got an air powered recip around somewhere, thats not bad, is that an option for your replacement? Not saying i`m selling in mind, just and idea.

Played with a Dewalt cordless one too, worked well, but battery life was pretty poor.

Come to think of it, the expired angle grinder I mentioned, that was a powercraft, just one I dragged around with me for anything outside the `shop. Replaced with an Erbauer cheapo, 2 year warrenty so I can`t complain when it goes bang, wonder if they do recips too.

Ive had a run of bad luck on tools so far this month, Cebora inverter, switched on, and clouds of white smoke came bellowing out.
Last week, Milwaukee straight grinder, lots of arcing around the armature, burning smell, and rotating at a very reduced speed. Probably better off with powercraft

Trigger switches seem to be a weak link on a lot of stuff.

wozz, thats exactly what happened to mine, exept mine was the multifunction different bladed one, done it out of the packet!, but over a month since i first bought it and couldent find the receipt , come to think of it now, ive still got 3 or so packs of spare blades for it...

Buy another one the same model then return the broken one using the receipt then get a refund
