Tool Boxes

This photo popped while on the web today.

It reminded of the tool box my grandad (on mums side) had, he was a carpenter and had a custom creation to store and carry all his tools.

Sadly, after he passed it wasn’t cared for and then eventually my cousins binned the lot, including all his tools. IDIOTS !

How many of you folk have tools boxes like this?

My dad converted an ex-WD wooden radio carrying box into something similar, I think I used it for a couple of years to carry my fishing tackle, it may still be in the loft at my mom's house.

I used to know a Sub contractor who would do all the company Wet sprinklers systems.
He had a box similar, with all his tools he should need.
But he also had one more full tools to "bail him out"

A mate of mine called to a house to do some work - to find the little boy there happily working on his Dad's car with a saw and a screw driver. The bonnet was rather the worse for wear apparently!

I was working at someone's house and went for my dinner . I said to the woman all my gears upstairs make sure the kiddy does not go up there as the floorboards are up as well .. ok il make sure she said . came back from dinner went upstairs to be greeted by about 30 10mm holes drilled in the floorboards the little runt err I mean mummys darling had got hold of the drill I went off it. stupid bag had no control over him and just let him please himself what he did he would have got my foot up his rear end if I could have

Not quite the same but similar, I was painting the kitchen when the boys were toddlers. At nursery they were doing hand painting. So late on a Sunday night they stepped into the roller tray and ran round the downstairs

Probably the only way to get exactly what you want in a toolbox Robbie, most generic tool boxes no matter what the trade are not designed by anyone on the tools and always fall short on capacity.

I chopped one up for firewood!
My nans uncle made coffins and all his tools were given to my grandad.
The tools were in a long wooden box and when I was little I used to chop
wood, any wood was fair game;-)

How many of you folk have tools boxes like this?

My Dad and I built one (well, I helped, sort of) when I was young. He was a carpenter & contractor and I eventually followed in the trade. He did finish work when he wasn't pushing a pencil, and also made a lot of our furniture when I was growing up. The tool box was similar in size and shape to the one in your photo, except it had a shallow compartment under the top and six drawers below; three on each side. Sadly it didn't survive storage in the years since my Dad passed away. The Tool box was built to replace his old one which I still have, and now houses most of his better wood working tools. The box resides near my desk and still bears some of the shrink wrap along the bottom from shipping here from over seas to minimise possible damp from this old house we're in.

Here are some photos of my Dads old carpenters tool box. There are two small drawers, two long trays, and a main compartment for the larger items.

I did debate making one of these for my systainers. so many hand tools it wouldn't be practical.
May well make one for my tstacks now my works more uniformed.
