I've had loads of welder shocks, its part of the job. A lot of my work is in food processing factory's usually everywhere's wet, favorite trick is being in an awkward position inside or under a machine with a scratch start TIG set and accidentally touching the filler rod on the tungsten, first you get the shock, then if the rod sticks to the tip and is also touching an earth it glows red hot.

I heard about a Sailor who couldn't make it aboard in time and had a pee over the dockside onto the ship to shore high voltage power cables that had chafed through, he was burnt severely from knees to chin after losing certain parts of his anatomy and fingers.

Had loads of shocks over the years. The first I remember as a wee boy (4,5 years old?) putting a plug into a socket, with my fingers wrapped round and touching the live and neutral pins. Zap.
More recently, going to use a big 3ph morticing machine in a workshop with not enough 3 ph plugs. Went to use the machine, grabbed the pull-down bar and got nothing more than a mild tingle. I wasn't even sure if it was a shock. Just in case, I checked the plug...
Over the weekend one of the Canadian chippys working there had replaced the plug on the machine under the instructions of the "boss", and got the earth and 1 of the phases mixed up. Glad the floor was dry...
In the same place a week or two before, the big thicknesser had failed to start, and sparks seemed to be jumping about, and the lighting ring was a bit hot. Turned out, apparently, the wires coming across the field had crossed, or something. I can't quite work it out, but after a couple of hours everything went back to normal. In the meantime I did discover the light circuit wasn't a ring, but extremely daisy chained, with no fuse, and no earth!
I have known electric fences to be tested using that old standby voltage tester, the dog.

One of my working dogs had a really nasty 'to wet-nose whilst standing on wet-grass' shock off my mains-fed fence charger when he was a youngster; I`ve never heard a dog make so much noise or run so fast in my life!
Coincidentally, the same dog (named: Cody) has the ability to sense mains electricity in extension cables; he`ll avoid them if they`re live but walk happily across them if they`re unplugged: don`t ask me how he knows, but he surely does!

Hi all,
Remember in another post I said I worked in dad's shop on Saturdays, a few years later I worked for him full time, learning to fix TVs and radios. TVs in those days were 'live chassis' and the favorite tool for fault finding was a neon screwdriver. You could get some interesting things happen if you touched them just behind the ear. Only had one 230 volt shock, that was enough!
Another game was to see who could draw the longest spark off the EHT, I think the record in our workshop was about an inch, funny, about 12 - 14 Kv and just a mild tingle, probably just a few milli amps.

If my poor memory serves me correctly from College, 50mA across the heart is enough to kill you! (Poor shock pun intended)
I worked with a sparks from Bristol and he had a habit of calling everyone "flash" or "blue", especially when he had been drinking. Somehow a bunch of us ended up being paid to finish his house refurb off and of course the wiring was up to him. When he flipped the switch under the stairs there was a big blue flash and he flew out of the cupboard muttering "Din't ert!". Needless to say his side of the business was Blue Flash Electrical from then on!

Wired my sisters goldfish bowl to the mains, just as I went to throw the switch 'Cough Cough' goes my dad watching me. ******. What woud have happened?
Wired the scalextric up to the mains to try drag racing, Bang goes the car.
Wired up a single fairly light bulb, BANG.

etc etc etc. We had a dedicated blowing up box (made of metal!) to avoid burning the carpet, never had any shocks while doing this stuff. Oh I did, I took the element off the electric fire and grabbed both terminals to see what would happen. That made me laugh.
Living in a doley slum early 80's, so bad there was stuff growing on the walls, my slum mate decided to mop the walls, over the light switch, Muggins turns the light on YOUCH.
In a moment of real narstyness, (Note I can be quite evil if provoked, never ever start a practical joke war with me) when ****** we connected the electric fence to a 'mate's' zip on his tent. Woken up by OW!! OW! OW!! etc etc. Eventually we remembered what I had done. Naughty naughty.
Oh another one, early courting days, being made to hold hands yeeuk!! ooh looky an electric fence. That was the end of that.
How strong I am not to pass on these secrets of manhood to my loopy boy child.

I always got my brother to switch new projects on for me.
I rewired the garage when I was nine, the alarming thing was that Dad didn't do anything to stop me!

This pillock lad of mine had a habit of chewing things especially when playing play station or whatever computer game was the flavour of the time, one night he had gone up to his bedroom and was playing the game next thing I heard was a god Almighty scream I rushed upstairs and he was frying away on the TV cable, the silly sod had chewed the black outer core clean off the wires and about 5inches off the brown live and a little bit more off the neutral so he had two uninsulated wires from his telly this chewing habit had been going on for weeks more than likely but this night he pulled the live wire that he had in his mouth away with one hand and had the neutral in his left it was then he got it it fried most of his left little finger to the bone before I was able to switch everything off, what a smell. straight to hospital where they took a graft from his side to build up his finger, then he caught some kind of MRSA from the operation so he had two wounds to try and heal........ For some reason he doesn't want to be an Electrician!!!
