u can either use soffit vents a couple of air bricks in the gable end or and roof tile vents as long as you get a decent airflow over your insulation
Cheers folks, I'll rip it out and peel the rockwool back, would it be worth spraying with an anti fungicide product?
There is an airing cuboard below the loft with a red tank in it, all the pipes do go up through to the loft, I do have to top up now and then.Julian and others .. caution Before removing the silver insulation .. question to Bryan
Is there a water tank or central heating header tank in the roof void ? if so is it correctly insulated . If yes and they are not insulated leave the foil insulation in place
Question number two... Are there any radiator pipes or cold water pipes in the roof void ? Again have they been correctly insulated ? if yes and they are not insulated leave the foil insulation in place and put gable end vents in
Question number three does you boiler have a red pressurising cylinder with an automatic vent in it up in the roof void ? If so do you find you have use the filing loop to bring the boiler pressure up to the correct pressure every few weeks or so . If so check the pressure relief device is not leaking in the rood void .
Question three do you have a shower in the bath room if so is there a working extractor fan on an over run timer to exhaust the moist air from the area before it can circulate through the other rooms and make the ceilings moist ?
Have you noticed any salt stains on the outer walls a damp course level or on the inner walls , anywhere where there are small raised bubbles when popped they are full with a white salt hairy deposit in or on them this would suggest a slow water leak and could be the source of your condensation . If so it could be on either the pressure side of the pipes or on the low pressure side .
Mine was on a radiator pipe hidden away in the floor slab .. it was a slight seepage at an amateurs attempt at plumbing & moving a radiator. When the heating was not on and a produced mug full every 30 seconds or so when the heating was on . It eventually filled the whole bungalow floor slab till it reached the evaporation point

There is an Ali flexible pipe going from the timed shower extractor through the outer wall, sometimes the extractor gets switched off by family members as its noisy..
There are no tanks or pipes up there though, no salt stains..
I get salt stains on the chimney breast in attic where water has penetrated down inside .capped it off and painted anti sulphate on inside to kill it
yep sorted it rebuilt the stack and sealed the top with 2 paving slabs then painted the lot with thompsons waterseal the flashings are code 4 lead in good conditionHave you checked the pointing of the stack & the flashing too as poor pointing , flashing or cracked top rows of tiles where someone has stood across the ridge is often the cause of water ingress ?
