I've carried a knife everyday for the last 60 years. (I'm 71) My parents knew I always had one with me. My father always had a knife in his pocket as well. Like the vast majority of the population I regard a knife as a tool I use mine every day for various tasks. I've never cut anyone (except myself) and I've never used it in an aggressive manner, and wouldn't dream of doing so. Interestingly enough everywhere I worked people were constantly asking to either borrow my knife or asking me to open something or cut something!

The thing is you are sensible and have never watched a film where someone used a knife and decided to copy it, If you stabbed someone you would expect to go to prison for life but that does not happen now, Life has become very cheap and throw away now i just feel sorry for the decent kids out there that have to live in society now.

IMHO, it’s not banning knives that needs doing, it getting the idiots to understand the damage that can be done with them.

Then one day it all dawned on her how she could easily have killed someone, never mind the pain she had caused. That is why we need to get them to understand, actions have consequences, it’s not like a computer game.

The whole notion of banning something and the problem disappears is a childish one. 1972 and the poo-storm kicks off in Northern Ireland, the first thing the irish government does is to ban nearly every firearm apart from .22 rifles and double barrel shotguns. So after 1972 no one got shot in Ireland ? I think we all know different about that.

Same in the USA, chicago banned nearly every type of firearm and the place is a warzone, but some of the largely rural states where everyone and his missus walks around with a revolver on their hip, have very low crime rates.

Without wandering into verboten terrority and having the thread locked, an incident happens, there is a public outcry, mr or mrs mp has to say something, "Lets ban knives, guns, drugs, whatever" and the public are satisfied for 10 minutes, but in reality it does sfa to solve the issue.

And it is the MP's I am sad to say. They want their name in the paper or face on the news so they can tell their constituents they have DONE something.
