Lidl rubbish

There is no decent tools in Lidl
People can argue with me on that all they want but it’s all cheap crap.

£60 for an arc welder, £40 for a cordless drill set etc. Yeah so it gets you by for odd jobs but it’s not decent. Give that welder or drill to someone that uses it full time and it will probably be lucky to see the week out.

Your probably right Richard but they aren’t sold as professional tools.

I bought a set of angle grinder cutting discs, the first one I used shattered and sent shards everywhere ! I was meant to take them back for a refund but guess what- I misplaced the receipt ! Just noticed last night after going to buy some beers from Lidl (there’s a white one that I like in particular) that they sell flap discs and emery cloth sanding discs...would I try them ? Nah, better buy some klingspor’s ! As above, buy food from them if you wish although we have more decent supermarkets that sell better food for the money than lidl !

bought their multi tool, has worked well BUT only use it occasionally ......
couldn't justify £300 for a Feign ?

Sadly my LIDL air multi tool was faulty out of the box and I don't have a receipt handy to return it. It sat on my shelf for 6 months waiting for a reason to use it. All the pips that the tool fits over have vanished so the tool just falls off after vibrating the screw loose.

Mine must be at least 11 years old now, never needed anything done to it.

I bought a Makita cordless multi tool. Then found that it was supplied bare. Again six months had gone by so couldn't complain. Resolution was to spend even more money on a new Makita drill that uses the same batteries!

That should read there are no professional tools in Lidl. If your comparing a £10 drill set with one at 4 times the price then it's a no brainer which is going to be better.

As an example I bought a variable speed jigsaw from Aldi/Lidl (Can't remember which) about 15 years ago for £7. I couldn't justify spending £35 on one from B&Q let alone £100-£150 on a Dewalt/Makita one as I wanted it for one job and money was a bit tight.

It's still going, been used for loads over the years - it's been relegated to "spare" now as I have a Bosch cordless which is undoubtedly superior in every way, but then at more than 10 times the price you could reasonably expect that. If I was using it to make my living from would I have bought it - obviously not unless I was desperate, but to say there are no decent tools in Lidl/Aldi is just being ignorant to their intended use/audience.

I bought a set of angle grinder cutting discs, the first one I used shattered and sent shards everywhere

I went in when they were selling their remaining stock off at about 2/3 price so I bought a few packs of 125mm slitting discs, I'm still using them up and haven't had a problem with any of them. I've cut 16g sheet and 2mm wall box plus various other grades and they have been perfect. If I let them cut at their own pace and don't put too much disc through the metal they last well and don't dust so I'm happy with them.

My Lidl belt sander lasted 10 yrs of regular abuse, including left out in the rain, and also accelerating into a brick wall at about 30 mph, (the power cut off, and I left it on the bench with the switch locked on, to go and fix the fuse..)
Lidl's quality ain't what it used to be

I've only had 2 Aldi tools fail on me within warranty, a pistol type soldering iron and an electric tacker. Being the careful type (my wife keeps receipts for years) they have both been refunded. I bought a gas soldering iron from Aldi to replace the leccy one and it is really good, used it several times on a fill and gets hot in seconds. We all have opinions and different experiences with businesses we interact with and some people are more easy going or tolerant than others. I find most places helpful if you are genuinely having problems with anything you get from them if you go back with the right attitude even if you have misplaced your receipt. To list some tools that I've bought from Lidl and Aldi and am still using there's a die grinder, windy gun, angle grinder x2, electric hammer drill (variable/reverse very good), electric DA sander (had it years) soldering iron, chain saw sharpener, battery engraver, battery charger, Dremel look alike with flexi shaft, hot melt glue gun,80 amp arc welder (handy thing) and probably a few more I have forgotten. I'm happy with both of them and their service and long may they prosper.

those belt sanders are great mine is used as a inisher now mounted upside down on the bench varible speed makes it perfect

i take pics of the recipts because they fade away after a 6 months or so

I've done the same & I now have a good stock of 125mm cutting discs.

I've found that the ones with the green writing are just average but the ones with the blue/red writing are quite decent.

As regards the belt sanders, at our mens shed they have wrecked several Lidl/Parkside belt sanders, never bothered with warranty, just rebuilt a good one using the broken ones as doners. Eventually we bought a makita one & it hasn't gave any problems.
