How to refit rear view mirror?

I was just getting a PITA length of trunking out of my Doblo and it went 'Twang' and clouted the rear view mirror and knocked the sucker off.
how do I refit it? it was held on by a small black panel onto the glass f the screen. No sticky deposits left behind, see photo.
All I can think of is superglue which I am not too keen on using.

Had the same problem myself a few years ago.

Don't forget to clean both surfaces with something like iso propyl alcohol before applying your pad.

I used to buy double sided mirror tape in little packs from the motor factors when I was in the trade. Seemed to work ok...

Seems like a straightforward fix, I'll leave the superglue out.

Superglue will probably crack the screen.

Double sided sticky pads or tape work well.

DONT USE SUPERGLUE! It will, as said above, crack the screen.

Screen repair place gave me a sticky pad for my mirror after it fell off the screen. Clean the area well before you apply the pad.

The first time it happened to me was on a Vauxhall I owned. Went to the dealers & they told me I’d have to buy a new mirror completed with adhesive pad (£123). After the dealer spares staff had finished laughing up their sleeves, they then told me where I could get just the pad, joke over.

Was thinking the same Pete, I only use the loctit 319 kits to glue mirrors to screens. That is basically a plasticy mesh that you drown in superglue on the mirror pad and hold on the screen for a few seconds. I can only assume that the mesh is a barrier which keeps the mirror casting off the screen.

Clean and warm the 'screen and mirror before refitting with a double sided mirror fixing pad.

i was told by a screen fitter that when you hold the mirror up to the screen, condensation from the heat in your sweaty little hands condenses on the screen causing the mirror to fall off again, warm the screen or wear gloves when fitting seems to work

I have seen a screen crack when a work friend glued the dash cam on with Super Glue.

I used a Mirror kit, cleaned the area with alcohol, warmed it with a hair drier and it is still there.

Well, I can't find a single reference on the net for superglue causing windshields to crack. Plenty advising not to use it because they fall off later, but nothing about it actually causing cracks, except for what I read here.

I will see if the images are still in the archive. It was like a crescent moon crack over the "blob" of glue.

Seen it myself twice Pete. Both times work colleagues had done it and the next day both screens were badly cracked.
I also knew a windscreen fitter who said itwas very common to replace screens because of it.

My mate owns a windscreen company and he warned me about super glue before giving me some sticky pads for my car

You can buy packs of pads for sticking the mirror back on.
