Finger Sander Belts

For the last 3 years I have purchased mine 100 ceramic P36 at a time from Abrasives for metals
Although before that I did buy 100 Zirconia P36 at a time from Abtec Abrasives

johnt1102 on eBay is where I get mine and they last well. I've not had any break yet either. These are for the B&D Powerfile and I am nothing to do with them just a happy punter. I have some AlOx ones and some Zirconia belts both work well on wood or metal.

I only get my powerfile belts from his ebay shop.

I've literally worn his belts down to the backing cloth but never had one break. There are some cheaper ones out there but not nearly as good a quality.

BTW only buy the blue zirconia belts for sanding steel, they are the only ones that last.

Since I got my die grinder I use it to tidy up the bulk of the weld & use the powerfile to finish it.

i break out the die grinder now changer the blets on the air finger sander or the electric one takes time

Die grinders are only of any use if they are air powered, (assuming you have a compressor) never found a decent electric one yet. I have used finger files in workshops for years, usually makita and never had problems, mind they were always bought on somebody else's dime, so tool and belt cost not an issue, I've just emailed Johnt1102 to see if he does the 13 x 475 zirconia belts for the the Evo power file.

Good shout on Abtec Abrasives, used to specify them as a supplier in the wheelchair workshop, good quality kit.

Abtec Abrasives are OK, but they were never able to make up an order of 100 items or more. They always got delivered as 20 here, 50 there, 20 again and a final 10 or whatever. They never charged for additional postage but it become frustrating as I was getting low on discs, pads, belts, rolls etc. and I was still owed some to make up the original order and the job was sitting on the bench... an occurrence that has never happened for me when using Abrasive for metals; 100 p36 x 115 pads, 100 p36 457 X 13 belts 100 etc, etc always delivered in one go and always quickly.

It is extremely easy for me to go JIT on jobs with Abrasives For Metals, whereas Abtec were always BLTN.

does anyone actually know what glue they bond the joint together with that stands the constant flexing and not just a guess to what you think they use or might work . it would be easy to make up your own belts any size knowing

I've been trying to find out for ages, i've got a few new damaged belts off the large linisher at work that I could turn cut down and some scotchbrite belts that need shortening.

The joints are glued and reinforced with fibreglass tape on the ones I get. Also the powerfile belts are 451x13 not 457 which puts them under a bit more tension and keeps them on track better.

I've got as far as the tape it's what glue they use I can't find out.

im going to try a hot melt canvas patch for jeans or overlap and glue gun then reheat and melt with hot iron it might work it might not

It's making it thin enough so it's both flexible and to minimise a bump.
