Lathes

I know some of the members on here are well into their lathes so thought the below may be of some interest.

Took a trip to the Bolton Steam Museum today. The workshop is off limits to the public but there’s a viewing gallery above with some nice looking machines in there.

Well worth a trip for anyone into their steam engines. Run voluntarily by a group of old school engineers.

fantastic place to go to, and on nbank holidays the engines are in steam. they currently have the engine on loan that Fred Dibnah used to power his workshop......

......the first time I went there was May last year and after I went there I decided that I needed a steam engine to play with, so I made this one

and the second thing was that I needed to get involved with industrial heritage, so I became a volunteer at the local industrial museum

and this is me as a volunteer in the engineering section of the museum

so be careful, strange things can happen after visiting Bolton Steam Musuem......don't say I didn't warn you.

I find you can normally wangle an invite to inspect the workshop if you start nattering to one of the volunteers about tools and worlshops. It's worked for me on two or three occassions.

We plan to go back on a steam day to see them running.

Great work on the steam engines, they are fantastic little pieces of engineering, you have some skills there. Good on you for volunteering. The people running these places often seem to be old boys and the skills must be gradually dyeing out, it's good to see people like yourself and the members on this forum keeping them alive.
