Anyone else get annoyed with shoddy & messy workmanship?

Just been fitting a new kitchen for some friends & some of the things I found I just couldn't believe some people find are a good working standard

Cables & Plumbing pipes just hanging loose & not fixed in place was one of the things to mention

Do people not take any pride in their work?

I am with ya on this, lucky being a handy guy I rarely need to call in a "professional" just wish modern cars were as easy to work on as the Capri I started out with, need a computer and special tools now for everything

I'm quite lucky that I've got a good bunch of tools for car repairs. Not much phases me + I've got a good network of contacts with Diagnostic equipment if need be!

I just ripped out all the bad stuff & replaced it. I said to them that if I'm doing the job, Then we are doing it properly

I’m grumpy anyway, but
When you have builders ie plumbers, fake carpenters and joiners round my way on more a day than I get a week and if you use one you end up paying them to go so you can re do it yourself it makes me a bit can’t say on this forum.
Where my father became ill my mother got trades in to finish, I ll post some pics later. Naturally I’ve been spending weekends re doing it

Wait till they all go battery.. Not sure what mechanics will do then.

There are still real tradespersons about. I recently had our bathrooms refitted by a local guy and was well impressed by the fit, finish and attention to detail. He had been in the loft to fit some shower pumps and extractors and when I went up there later I found all my randomly scattered aerial and Cat-5 cables had been rerouted and neatly clipped to the rafters.

I gave up doing small plumbing jobs. Some of the installations were so bad I just wanted to rip the whole lot out and start again. The house owner just wanted a quick fix. It started to depress me so I stopped. I didn't need the money I just did it to keep occupied and help out a friend.

Have found a couple of horrors whilst doing up our house. Took down a partition wall. There were 2 sockets in the wall and a radiator on it. Rad off and capped no probs, took off some plasterboard to find a random length of electrical cable, thinking it was a scrap piece left from installation go to tug on it but think better just check first. The Bugger was live!!! Take off the rest of plasterboard to find that this cable was connected to one of the sockets. It was just dangling in the wall not terminated or anything just cut cable end. . Also had unsecured pipework around the boiler and pretty much every cable under the floor was just hanging there.

I`m sure there are Perry, but often money has changed hands before you find out the guy doing the work for you is not one of them.

Guess I was lucky - my guy financed everything, including all fittings, flooring, tiling etc, and would not invoice until I had signed off on everything.

Every time I come across it. How some of these people have the affrontery to call themselves [insert trade here], I do not know. Worst part is, they think their work is of acceptable quality.

See plenty of fake carpenters. Usually offer to swing doors for 20 quid a time.

If potential customers complain about my prices I suggest they find a handyman (fake carpenter) and give me a call when it's done so I can come and put it right.

builders built a stud wall round a cabinat with the computer still inside , was bolted to floor and counter total pain in ****

Have worked with a bodger in the past he drove me mad. I watched him take the dash out of his own golf gti mk5 to remove an abs warning light bulb for its mot. He broke a bit of trim that cost him nearly £50 delivered off ebay and it passed.

I googled the symptoms it just needed bleeding....
