Difficult to know how we'd react in an accident but I'm surprised they didn't turn the lathe off sooner (first vid), fair enough the damage was done but may have reduced the injury.

I read about an accident in america, guys cutting down trees and putting them through a chipper

new guy pushes a branch in with his foot, it catches his trousers and drags him in... he's chipped before anyone can do anything

there's a few guys there they freak out (I assume feet fist chipping is slow and horrific)... they start taking their safety gear off... and don't stop, they end up stripped down to their underwear... then the boss had a heart attack (can;t remember if he survived)

some videos are just pointless

the problem with me with the health and safety videos is its not real life with real life issues yes its there for safety aspects but dosnt show what truly can happen

ive seen enough of them in my time and i think there a poor reference after all we are adults, as goes for the school learners stick within no blood and gore but theyve probably seen more than we can show them

my honest opinion show the parents the videos first if the parents dont like the video shown child is excluded from the class as the child needs to know the dangers

The best Health and Safety video I ever saw was shown to me during my apprenticeship and was called 'The man from LOX'.

It's not for the faint hearted but it gave me a very healthy respect for liquid oxygen.

I've never found it on the 'net but BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corporation for the under-40's ) apparently produced a safety film so graphic that employees were falling of their chairs in fright whilst watching and having to be aided by state-registered nurses following the more gory bits!
