I've only ever used masonry bits no hammer bit use some masking tape as it stops the bit slipping

Ive just done this exact thing. I used the spear head ones (from screwfix from memory). I did find they like being cooled ALOT - you can feel as it gets too hot. It stops cutting. So I ended up using 2 bits and kept swapping them. We’ve had a whole wet room tiled floor and walls so I was paranoid about cracking one too. No dramas thankfully but it was hard work.
I just use masonry drills without hammer, cooling the bit if needed,
To drill bigger holes, I use diamond holesaws, a cheap set from eBay, the trick with them is to start off at about 5 degrees, and slowly move it to 90 degrees, it doesn’t then skate across the tile, that’s what I do anyway.

Fine on ceramic but when you hit porcelain you can and will melt drill bits.
Diamond core drills @gaz1 posted are my pref for porcelain. Don't waste my money for ceramic and use a decent qualitymasonry bit

I haven't drilled a ceramic tile in years and bits have probably moved on , a mate showed me a trick to getting a drill started on a tile. Basically he used a 4" nail and very gently tapped it with a hammer to break the surface at the center of the hole on the tile prior to drilling. It ensures the drill wont walk, just sayin

Thanks guys, I now have a selection of techniques to try. I have some spare tiles to work on first and fortunately I don't have to drill holes in the tiles that cost £94/m2.

Aldi this week have drill sets for £1.99, for 15 drills,
The masonary ones seem to work ok, you get 2 of the 10mm 2 of the 8mm, 2 of the 6mm, and 3 off the 4mm and 3 mm in a case, ideal for battery drills,
They do the same in metal drills, which I did buy, but haven’t tried

Just done my bathroom with a combo of:
- Bosch multi construction bits (the blue ones)
- Arrow headed tile drills (T'station)
- Diamond core bits off eBay.
The set of core bits come in under a tenner. 6mm is the smallest size.
The ones in the set above are fairly thin wall. For example here's a 40mm one from the <£10 set next to one bought separately for probably £5-10 on its own. The one on its own is thicker walled. Tbh there's no difference in cut quality but maybe longevity. The pricier one also has a hex shank rather than plain round:
Results speak for themselves. I used an MDF jig:

The real big holes I cut with a carbide coated jig saw bit from T'station:

Just found the Lidl / Parkside kit (4,6,8,10 &12mm) I'd lost which is the reason I bought the loose kit of them. Thought I'd try on the last hole of the removeable bath panel. Tbh my MDF jig method is better as it holds the core bit tighter (as it swells?):
Got a little chip. Will be covered by white silicone over A2 screws in about half an hour so no worries!

you don't need the sucker guide a piece of wood with a hole drilled in it works just as well

Yes have a set of those. Work well and seem to last well compared to some I've used. Macrist make good core cutters too.
Pricey though

I drilled holes in a mates bathroom tiles, after they had been glued to the wall, with one of those bits and it worked a
treat. The drill was a cheap thing from screwfix.
I drilled some other tiles for someone with a diamond thing that looked like a small holesaw, but that was on loose tiles
and I did those on the pillar drill.
