Simple question for those who know of such things [unlike this Numpty ]

Are .dxf files format(s) scaleable?

If they're not, then I'll not bore you any further , but they are I'll elaborate.

A DXF file is just a format that allows drawings created in one program to be opened in another, so if your drawing program allows scaling, most do, then yes.

Yes, typically auto cad or draftsight, type the word scale and then the amount and you are done.

Typically any cad file is scalable with the right software

Generally, a dxf file will be drawn to scale at 1:1 but can be scaled when imported or printed.

That being said, it's a very common format and scaling is an operation that most should support.

Following up on the question, someone posted a YouTube of a chap teaching an 'apprentice' how to weld together a deer head, based on those plywood models you see advertised for kids at Christmas. [I was disappointed to see him using a claw hammer though...... ]

Plans are available on Instructables to download, and it occured to me that this sort of thing would sell well to the hunting, fishing & shooting crowd who come up to the Lodges hereabouts and pay vast amounts of ££££££ for the right to fish, stalk or shoot the fauna.

So, roughly how much would it cost to cut have the parts laser/water jet cut as a kit, for me to weld together. Limited supply of places up here who could do this sort of work, I suspect.
I'm thinking models 12" high and maybe 24" too - from 1mm [?] for the smaller one(s) and 3mm [?] for the bigger versions. Rough ideas at to costs inc materials and carriage would give me an idea as to whether it's a viable prospect.

Don't know about the pricing, but i've thought about copying these plywood type models before. Certainly around here prices vary greatly so shop around and get a few quotes, quantity also makes a difference as well I reckon it would be a fairly safe gamble I can see them selling well.

From looking at the pictures, there are ~25 pieces to that project. I think you would need to start with the CAD plans to get a reasonable idea of material requirements and the total cut length, before you could get much of a feel for pricing? It's a shame I'm not nearer you. I've just got my 1kW fiber laser up and running. It will cut 10mm mild steel and 5mm stainless. I normally work with dxf files. It's a vector format and all laser software that I know of will scale it.
