Roofing work costs.

I probably would have felt better if it had taken two days, at least I could justify it with labour then.

But obviously I'd wonder why it took so long.

It just seems to me that I haven't had good value for money. Everyone should be paid fairly but why should anyone pay excess, I've got a family to feed just as they do.

As mentioned above it was probably over quoted incase of unknown issues...that's fine, makes sense. But the other side of the coin should there be a reduction if there are no issues since there's usually an increase when further issues arise?

At the end of the day I honoured the job and paid the full amount. I just was looking for advice on wether or not it was reasonable.

It would appear from comments on here that roofers are a bunch of theiving buggers like everyone else.

then you should pay for all materials and ask the builder / or tradesperson for there day rate

if I have to give a quote for a job and there is a weeks work I charge an extra day just in case it goes pear shaped . that's the idea of a quote the punter gets a fixed price no matter what happens .if I score I make extra if it turns sour I cover myself . if you just want time and material the punter takes the chance that you may be quicker and save a few quid or it may take longer and he pays the difference paying more you cant have it both ways. even if you think the quote is high get a cheaper one if you aren't happy

It was a bit of a sting but I was happy with the quote with what i thought I was getting.

There's a disconnect between what I expected and what I received but no so much as to say the work was not completed, but enough to make me feel disgruntled at the price.

It's a bit like when you buy a nice metabo machine these days and it arrives with a "made in china" sticker on it. It works, it's a metabo, but you feel a bit robbed.

I get what you mean it can p..ss you off if they absolutely score if i ever price and the punter asks how long it will take I don't say otherwise at end of job and payday they say you just got job done a day earlier than you said and expect you to knock it off and I then say would you pay me more if it went sour and they say no . well there you go

Next job they could lose massively.
One averages out the other over timr.

They could have had a mare of a job and chances are they would have honoured the quote regardless.

Dont dwell too much. Jobs done lifes too short.

To be fair they do honour quotes even if it goes wrong, they did do a whole lot extra for my dad for nothing extra.

Yup it's all done but I'll be more prepared for next time

only a few weeks ago mate had a bloke round he had 2 lots of water coming in the roof

bloke said he checked all over 2 birds nest hole round the chimeny and 2 rips in felt and few broken tiles

cost £450 ok all leaks sealed and warrenty on work ok do it was the answer

he got home spoke to the next door bloke was there an hour in total (ok not a problem)

3 weeks later hard rain water in 1 of the places that had water in before phoned the bloke hes saying it must be water tracking back up the felt going in to the gutter as the roof is fine did not even come over to have a look

i went in side the roof i found 2 more places where the felt is riped quite bad has been missed ive cleared the area where the wet is and said next time you get rain come and check where it wet and we will go from there (not saying the bloke is wrong he could be right)

but at least come and check it out

I said in my opening post they came straight out when I called for a couple snags.

They aren't baddies, doesn't mean I feel like I got my money's worth.

And that's the crux of it isn't it? You feel robbed because they didn't lose out by having to do more work than they anticipated like they did at you're dads. If they had done more than they had planned for in the quote you would have felt that you got one over on them because you had a fixed quote so it's not your problem if they lose out because they underestimated the amount of work needed.
