you could try power over ethernet - I'm using it at home, works great

just plug one of the adapters in next to the router and plug the other in wherever you want wifi... plug an access point into it :-)


(you can get plug thingies with built in wifi... but I've nver tried one to know if they're any good or not... I'm assuming they should be good

isn't that "ethernet over power" - ie, using mains cables to carry ethernet.

I *think*(?) power over Ethernet is used to carry a power supply over Ethernet cables for things such as cameras.

Yes that is correct POE and there are various flavours of that too but it is mostly down to the current available at each port.

I've got sky Q, the main box and mini box work as Wi-Fi repeaters, I had to put cat5 to the main box from the router as it's too far away for wireless hub to reach but now the whole house is covered and part of the garden. I just need to run some cat5 to the workshop as the aluminium foil in the vapour barrier has made an effective faraday cage .
I see that you can get a second Virgin media box for multi room so I assume it will also act as a repeater.

2nd virgn box wont help. The wifi is sent from the modem/router not the cable box.

as above it depends on the wiring in your house... works great for some and not at all for others.... worth a try because if it works well it's really handy/simple to install/easy to use

mine is supposed to be 1.2gigabit... not sure how fast it is, rest of network is gigabit and there's no slow down using the powerline stuff vs just the network so works great here :-)

Powerlink adapters have the best chance of working if they're on the same ring. If they have to cross circuits, MCBs and RCBOs etc. start filtering out the signal superimposed over the mains, more by accident, than design.

Some powerlink products are definitely better than others. I wouldn't touch BT again with a barge pole.

You can only have the same SSID across devices if there is a central controller I.e. Cisco WLC etc.

There is a brand of home AP that will mesh together but I can’t remember the name (they are like upright cylinders).

I have a virgin media super hub which is fine for the front room. I also have a TP link switch which takes all I need to the back room BUT I wanted to use a hap Ac lite Mikrotik router board as a switch.
My problem is that router is accessed via 192.168.88.1.
SO I googled hap ac lite as a switch and they say its easy...it6s not. lol

I can use a feed from my front room switch and it does not work.

BUT if I alter the local section on the microtik to 192.168.0.100 the wifi on the mikrotik works BUT not the wired ethernet connection.

WHat more do I need to do? I have tried enabling DCHP on the microtik local section and it still does not work.

IF I just use the ethernet from the front room to the PC that works also.

Any one have any suggestions?
