Come on. man - it's a welding forum..... If originally bothers you, buy a couple of spare guards and perform the surgery on those.

I know, I know... but it was making tools and stuff for woodturning that got me into welding and this community! Yes, making some larger ones would make more sense than transmogrifying the pristine original guards.

Which one? I have a Bulldog 200 I saved from being scrapped, its the last type Q&S before they went out of business. I have a copy of the manual for the Bulldog too.

Yep 6” with the hydraulic lift on the return stroke. Nice machines, a bit more posh than the rapidor

I rescued one of them from a school earlier this year, currently sat in my garage waiting to be delivered to my BIL home workshop. Lovely bit of kit and I have the original bill of sale and manual for it
