I think it's a precursor to the modern electric screwdriver. You can put different bits in the hole and also preset the depth that the screw is driven in.

I think I have a plastic version in the depths of a drawer somewhere.

Looks a bit big for the standard hex drive screwdriver bits. It must be for something similar, the middle part slides over the balls and presses them in to grip something. I think Hilti drills use that system, but only two balls, this one has three or four. Annoying thing is I think I have used one, but can't remember where, when, or why. Is the top part an adjustable slip clutch?

It is rubbish to use, complicated to insert the screw.

Would assume its similar to a tek gun wihout the clutch.
Once the screwhead is in correct depth it should disengage from the screwhead.
had some similar for plasterboarding with normal drills.

Handy when fitting stainless steel screws at arms length.

Deffo a screw driver attachment for the elec drill. Inset different bits to suit Philliips,Pozi flat etc, got an adjustment on the collar for how deep you want the screw to go.

Slotted screws now there is something rarely seen these days, twaz the work of Lucifer

I go to the Harrowgate woodworking show every year, there is always a guy demm'oing them (all day long) they do work very well, lent mine to my elder son and it got "cream crackered) using it to put thousands of drywall screws in overhead,

I have one to them that came in an auction box of contents. Mine uses 5/16" hex drive bits, not the standard 1/4" drive & they're all missing so the device is useless!

I have one. Intended so that you can set it to disengage just as the countersink of the screw is flush, or if you wish, deeper for filling over for a concealed finish
