stupid design a machine screw through w paper thin metal any use as the unit is prone to vibration is never going to last I fixed with a bit and bolt but should we need to and how meny people just throw them away ?

The mandrels on my ride on are made of some kind of monkey metal, hit a stone and they disintegrate violently rather than stop the blades The way the belt drive runs means if the mandrel goes on one you can’t run the other, it needs fixing.

They are held on with strong self tapping screws, a complete bind to remove, even the breaker bar struggles, I grind them out. When I got oem bits for it I was amazed to see that it fits a multitude of mowers, virtually all the brands use either the tall or short mandrel.

Somethings are just simply designed to fail. A shelf life if you like. Flat pack furniture is probably the most classic. We’ve all been there. You buy it, you make it fit together and at the time you think it’s fairly rigid and nicely supporting your shirts and trousers.
3 months go by and the wardrobe is looking a little diamond shaped with a couple of gaps showing at the top and bottom of the doors.
In 6 months it’s an inch out of square so you straighten it up and tighten the screws!!! Wrong!!! You attempt to tighten the screws and they end up cutting through the hole and just spinning. So now you take them out make new holes thinking you’ll get another six months.
Wrong again!!! The 2nd drawer down the bottom has just fallen out with the weight of your socks and the handle has just pulled off the top drawer.
Cut a long story short. Flat pack furniture I’d say if your a handy guy with a screwdriver you might get 9 months. Don’t use a posh screwdriver or you’ll knacker it on the chocolate self tappers.

Optimum sold by excel machine tools, they are badged as Made in Germany, but if they are actually made in Germany i am a Chinaman. The lathes of which we have one are identical to Sieg, Warco, Chester & to be fair the lathe isnt bad. It is better than the warco we had at college which frankly was a pile of scrap iron from new.
The Drills are simply not fit for purpose.

I can see this thread getting a few posts can I add Apple phones in to the mix seam to last the 2 year contract then fail with all different types of faults iPhone 5 or older last for years 6 and on words forget it

I agree, there's flat pack and flat pack and there are people who find the need to move furniture around by dragging it full of stuff on a carpeted floor.
Earlier this year my daughter bought a flat pack chest of drawers from Ikea, I had already told her not to because of my experience of chipboard sh*** furniture.
Anyway it arrived and I put it together and must say that I was impressed, although it's still chipboard sh*** it's really well fastened together with some newer ingenious ideas.

^^^^^when building flat pack glue every joint and hole you can find takes 3 times as longer but it does stay together longer

Here is one for the collection, a Screwfix drill sharpener which is also badged as Sealey and a few others. What a piece of rubbish, I kind of knew it was going to be but the tightwad in me convinces me otherwise. Its got no grunt, the smaller holes wont work even with the grinding wheel at the highest setting and to sharpen/center smaller drills was the only reason I bought it.

With an eight minute rest after every two minutes of use you will be tripping over your beard by the time you have sharpened a draw full of drills
