The insurance cheque has come in and on hand tools it will be the last pay-out, 4 break-ins in 3 years (not just tools) despite continually beefing security has made me think twice about what I replace and what with.

Generally non branded Chinese stuff doesn't walk, Along with larger 3ph kit, put a 13 amp socket on it and a nice name and its never going to be with me for long.

So I'm looking to go down the Chinese inverter route for an A/C D/C Tig, and MIG preferably all in one machine, If its binded in a couple of years so be it, as some of last lot of tools stolen were with me less than 6 months..... Can anyone recommend me a machine about 200-250 amps that will do-the-job....

Its a sad day but I'm resigned that its fruitless running anything decent.

Feeling your pain.
Have exactly the same dilemma, fairly remote location as well. Been contemplating my options for a few weeks now.
My issue is that the cheapie tools just do not work as well.
Really am not sure what to do next

Isnt it awful when you have to compromise your work because of the thieves. We are having a mini crime wave at the moment. I live in a nice area but there are some not so nice not far away. Im assuming the theives are preparing for Christmas. Ive asked the Police what they are doing about it and theres no reply. Theres been a very identifiable van acting suspiciously and i saw it on my street. Tried phoning 101 and rang for 30 mins but no reply so I rang 999 and was asked what do I think they can do....it was 30 mins ago....I nearly swore.

Personally I would pay more tax if there were more Police but I doubt that would happen.

We need vigilantes but you know where that will end

PS....sorry I have no idea about the kit....but Iif your determined to go the Chinese way look for one with a UK base....just in case....I think R Tech are one

What you need are Tibetan mastiffs that you only feed 1 or 2 times a week. I have a rtech dc tig and a rtech mig

What about putting a 3 phase plug on it and wiring it up single phase?
Need a dummy 3 phase socket as well.

Might be a bit of a deterrent to the scum bags.

The trouble is rurally we are such a target, Grinders drills etc I can cope with going (certainly don't want) welders in the thousands I no longer want to give them the satisfaction, There not just transit dwellers these are organised gangs pretty fearless of anything including dogs, some of the kits going to fuel more crime, ie plant is found in the middle of town to rip an ATM from the wall...… Police disinterested...…

Its a dilemma cheep kit generally isn't special, but its better than no kit.

I have an N in the 32amp sockets so would be relatively easy to do.... but I reckon if they could carry it be gone....

Agree, they “borrowed” a couple of 3 Phase bits from me.
Development of battery powered tools has really help this fraternity as well, artery grinders especially, perhaps they should be licensed !
Also it’s not just the loss of tools, also the mess that is made and the damage. Worst bit is seeing the damage and your brain thinks oh well I can repair that, if , I had some b@&&£#. Tools.

Heres a list, 3Ph Kempi mig, big anvil, 2 BOC oil filled 200A stick welders, another single Ph mig, 4 gas bottles misc grinders \ hand tools, rolls of roofing lead, SWA 2 rolls, a new pecker off the 17 Tonner complete with quick hitch.
Then we get to diesel don't bother to fill a machine any more as it will be empt next morning
Have video of van & trailer the next day with some stuff on it Police were not interested, "here is a crime No make a claim".
I think they are becoming not worth what we pay them & a lot of the dis interest is political, also courts need to have the power & will to sentence.Then you talk to insurer better to swallow the cost, the premiums are scary & if we claimed every time the Co's would decline to quote

We never had the garages we owned broken into in 40 years either.
Friend had his broken into 12 months ago not only break in but arson just to add to it 2 vintage cars burnt out +

That's pretty much the crutch of it. Take away the buyers and there is no reason to steal it in the first place.

Sad tale - annoyed reading the accounts of multiple break ins...

We were lucky, problems though started about 10 years ago, quads and diesel to start, Then tools.... Then Plant.... I dread to think what the spend has been and year on year you have to improve what measures you already have... To lock the yard is about 30 minutes and the same to unlock, main gates, second gates and third gates, Each shed has multiple locks and workshop Now has a lock box for the hand tools, That's without the alarms and cameras, the O/A has the mixer removed every night to stop my own gear used against me, Diesel pumps electric are isolated from a remote location, and all the machines have there own separate immobiliser that each operator has to carry around as we cant even leave keys in whilst we the other end of the yard..... All the machines have broken fuel caps where they have pried them open, we now only ever leave a dribble in each over night..... I honestly think id have less problems in central London, not rural Essex surrounded by £1m houses.

As I said the crimes become a lot less petty, those who are nicking the handlers to put through a cashpoint are certainly not opportunist or pikeys this is steal to order stuff...

I considered a friends yard to be much more secure than mine, but he was done the week after and 6 months prior they dragged a caravan out across the fields and through someone's garden!, It would be laughable if it wasn't so bloady destroying financially.

Basically there carry on because there is no deterrent, Out of the 10 yards that have been done in the last couple of months not a single one of us have seen a copper If there nicked unlikely with no one looking then chances are cases never go any further than a chat.

I feel your pain, just been thinking what about an old BOC ADR 300 to solve the TIG/MMA probloem? Looks like an old heap of junk, very big and very heavy.
