My homemade chipping hammer

So i did bad whit the handle but i think that I made something that seems like the estwing model used by chucke2009
So what do you think about?

It cost me something like 4 hours of grinding and polishing
It's heat treated in the stove because i have not a forge yet
Painted without rust protection ,only blue paint

It looks strong enough to be used in a granite quarry as a stone dressing hammer .

On your next one try brazing a cut to a point & chisel section cut from a surplus SDS chisel to the top of the shaft . Wrapped round & twisted 6 mm mild steel rod can make a good hammer shaft if you want to make a spare one .

You don't need to beat the weld to pulp to remove the slag if you let if go cold , a gentle strike will cause large amounts of slag to come cleanly free .

No i think that is the only that i make for something like ten years
I made this because the first i made was not able anymore to do the job
So i made this straight different from the first one made by using rebars
I never beat the bead always point the hammer on a edge of the bead and pull ,so the slag get out without damaging the bead pattern or make cuts on the parent metal

I though the idea for the chipping hammer was to have of a softish tip on it so you didn't hack into the weld or metal when chipping the slag off .
I don't think I've ever purchased or used a really hard point chipping hammer for that very reason . Perhaps the professional welders on here will give the correct solution ?

Depends. I like a hard point but not too sharp as you can control the force but you can planish the weld if necessary and chip spatter off
