The reason for non operation was immediately obvious, the trigger latch mechanism has broken at the pivot point because the plastic outer case has cracked (see photo).
Contacted the manafacturer (UK based for once) to be told they dont sell any spares & the solution is to buy a complete new stand!
The stand itself is quite nicely engineered with grips that fold round the Guitar neck to hold it solidly. The design of the broken latch is a different story & to my trained engineers eye looks decidely poor, the plastic material of the outer case is very thin at the pivot point. The stand is by no means old, she’s only had it a couple of years & only does a few gigs a year.
Quite a few musicians have entries on the net about this latch failing. Why would a manafacturer not supply spares if they know they have a problem & then redesign the part to avoid future failures?
I certainly wont be buying her a new stand having worked out a less elegant but more reliable replacement latch that just entails a bit of lathe work.
