So with the jobs off shore and with the sparrows jobs etc is there any corse that is needed or is it a matter of getting qualified then applying for that position

You will need the offshore tickets mentioned above & qualifications in the area your applying for - sparky/mec/hyd tec etc. Then ring up there HR department and ask where to send your CV.
Halliburton are another one to try.

Something else to think about, given your background in car mechanics is to specialise in battery cars. Like it or not they will be replacing fossil fuel cars over the next few years & I can see there being a big shortage of knowledgeable people to repair them.

I originally considered domestic and commercial lock smithing as I can run it alongside my carpentry works for a few years before making the switch full time.

And don't we know it, I think we've all seen our share of them, places where you wouldn't even clean your teeth or wash your face unless it was sealed, bottled water, just one case in point I was working offshore Kinshasa we came in for fresh food, our shoreside expedite couldn't get to us in time, because we couldn't pay the bribe to the port authority, they just threw the doors of the two reefers open and let the food rot, and just to make it worse there had been a government coup and our exit visas were no longer valid, we were imprisoned for a week, water ladle out of a bucket and local bread, Come to exotic Africa and see the sights..... Yeah Right.

Hairy stuff indeed but what an experience and story to tell. That’s another thing why I’m looking for a new career path, boredom I wouldn’t mind a bit of excitement and veriaty

This and many other reasons are why I have always avoided going to Africa! The Middle East was fun enough!
