A silly question

I have an electrical motor I would like to test to see if it’s running, the motor is single phase and wired for 240v configuration, obviously the earth connects to the junction box of motor, but the only two wires that are available are P1 (purple) and L1 (black), please note P1 is of a heavier gauge as L1, the motor is American.
Am I right to presume that P1 would be live and L1 neutral?

Provided white is connected to orange and brown is not connected and insulated, then yes, P1 live, B1 neutral.

It has a sticker on the pump wired for 240v, I presume that when you said B1 neutral you meant L1 neutral?
