Grinder chainsaw ??

Just seen this on faceache

Cheap and just thought it would do me for cutting a few conifers down that are no bigger than 6 inch thick.

One thing i notice is that it will not have the power cut off fitted to the shield.

I'd sooner go for a purpose built electric chainsaw rather than a converted angle grinder. A small grinder like that can have quite a long run down time. Also the way you hold it doesn't look right to me, the operators hands are not in the right positions to control it. Chainsaws evolved to that standard handle position because that's the safest way to hold a chainsaw

I noticed an electric chainsaw in screwfix the other day, £99.00. It had a built in chain sharpening mechanism, seemed ok for domestic use.
I use a reciprocating saw for small jobs, it is quite quick.

Most little grinders have switches which lock on so that looks dangerous as hell to me.

Nothing wrong with a cheap electric chainsaw -

I have done loads of work with a cheap DIY green Bosch one.

Last year I bought a 2100W Stihl MSE 210.

I hardly ever get a petrol saw out now...


I would not be using a saw without a chain brake or auto oiling.

To be honest - as I have got older - I even have bought the outfit - chain safe gloves, mesh face guard, chain safe bib & brace trousers.

(There was a time when I would cut up a bit of fire wood with a petrol saw without any kit on).

Don't see any proper chain lubrication either. That chain is running at huge speed, without lubrication that chain is going to get cooked rapidly

As well as all the above, by the time you add delivery and then a grinder to use with it your knocking on the door of £50, for which you can get a proper electric chainsaw from screwfix. I’d much rather have something purpose made, even a cheap one has got to better than that.

Also bear in mind most grinders power switches will lock in the “on” position - probably not something you’d want on a chainsaw.

My brother in law has that saw good for what it is

Until the moment your driving home and find a tree blocking the road. Then you will wish the saw in the back was petrol.

Tbh wouldn't catch me up a tree with a cabled saw. Cordless I'd consider if I had a pressing need and they had enough guts.

I will look at a tool for the job then, maybe the Titan even at that price.

cant exactly say anyone drives round with one in there boot unless they are a traveller or tree surgeon

Been driving round with a stihl saw in the van for a month, if I had a chainsaw would probably be in there too

My mistake I saw the expedited shipping at 13 quid, I didn’t realise it was free for normal. Still don’t think I’d bother...

I value my hands to much to even consider that grinder/chainsaw mechanical disaster

I don't like them much but I do use it carefully .it don't help being left handed .even hand held circular saws are a bit norty and need respect
