Tool Insurance Recommendations

Hopefully in the next week I will have a new job in the motor trade and it will be the first time I will have my tool cabinet away from home. can anyone suggest where to get tool insurance from? I have googled it but worried as very few names I recognise come up and I'd rather not put in details of where I live and what tools I have to some bogus website.

Before going down the route of paying for your own insurance ask the new employer if his premises insurance covers your tools should they become stolen or destroyed while on the premises. You’ll probably find all the equipment in the place is covered and your box could well be covered too.

Photograph everything in your box too, it will be a ball ache but it's scary how quick the numbers start stacking up. If you have pictures of everything at least you can work out the value properly.

+1 photograph everything and file any purchase receipts. I've had all my tools cleaned out a few times its a right pain proving everything with the insurance. Sometimes they want to find the "equivalent" which is also tricky as there are sockets sets and THERE ARE SOCKET SETS! also ensure your cabinets are lockable and locked when your away.

Mine aren't if i'm a sub contractor,ie few garages i work in i dont come under their cover if its my tools etc,

I've been thinking about this recently. Different, but most domestic insce policies limit the value of tools at around £500. Not nearly enough for most of us on here.

It's a timely reminder to do some investigation - thread bookmarked.

Motor trade policies can cover tools.

I will definitely ask if their insurance will cover the tools, I would also make sure it's chained/fixed to the building too.

Will get pics and no doubt itemize everything too.

I did a few online quotes earlier and they vary from £50 to £250 a year.

Marking the larger or more valuable items [not always the same] in some way [preferably indelible or easy to remove] with e.g. your postcode.

Yes im thinking about marking it all especially my SO stuff, even if just so I know it's mine. I'm pretty neat with the tool organisation so can tell easily if something is missing.

Might get a stamp made.

I went through this with my sister, shes an insurance broker, she managed to get contents of my garage as contents as the garage was alarmed and secured as the house, but also an intergral part if the house.

Now in the sticks Im fully covered in an NFU small holder policy! If its replacment with new 20 k is very easy to rack up.
