might find the screws or nails in one mind if the magnets powerfull to stick on the outside . I just tap the wall or hammer a thin screwdriver in till I find them

I only do commercial buildings so it is usually taped boards on MF, often you can see the tape line or filled screw holes if you look very carefully at a shallow angle. Pop a ceiling tile, often the MF is un boarded above the ceiling or unfinished so you can see the tape / line of screws, if not try below the floor. Pull off a socket, if in DL boxes push a rod across until you find the MF upright, if all else fails test drill with a 1.5 or 2mm bit, just don't go much deeper than 12mm or 25mm if it is a double skinned partition.
More fun than stud work is coping with a dot and dab.

Control panel to right of 90" screen is in a DL box into a single skin dot and dab board.
