We've had a community of door mice move in with us in the last month, very sweet but..
We tried traps to no avail, got the poison out, working a treat, got rid of the rats last year same way, not one dead one in the house. They went outside to die.

Some years ago we had a squirrel issue and couldn't find their point of entry - until if snowed and we could see their tracks across the roof to a hole invisible from the ground under the eaves right in the angle where the roof from an extension met the main run. Scrunched up wire netting laced with expanding foam sorted it.

its just reminded me. gotta get the bait blocks out and put them round the house sheds and garage .always do it round the back end. after 1st nite some of the blocks are taken. re bait next nite and there still there so they have done there job

We had a mouse behind the units in the utility room, baited the conventional traps for a week with bacon rind, chocolate etc and it ate the lot without setting the traps off, it was eating us out of house and home. 
Bought a plastic box gadget for a couple of quid, mr mouse walks in to get the bait and a flap falls down and traps it...got it the first night.

I feel your pain. I think we have some between the walls in the house. New build so all car board walls.
Found evidence of them in the garage, doesn't help keeping the sacks of door food in there! Need to set some traps out there, and then attack the house. Have to try and place them tucked away so the dogs can't get the bait. don't think they would approve of a mouse trap wrapped around their nose

You must have good ears to hear mice in the ceiling.
I shout worry about the pong of an unrecoverable one too much it passes but a house fire due to chewed wiring on a flood from teeth on plastic plumbing pipies leaking means major work or total loss

Yeah we get mice coming into the house this time of year, they are able to get in the space between the insulation and the concrete roof where all the plumbing is , or sometimes between the insulation and the T&G ceilings ...never found how they get in. I use a poison that stops the corpses smelling ....I think I'm gonna try a electronic devise next seen what ebay has to offer ....any recommendations ?

I won't kill them - use a live trap - caught 5 in one night. All field mice. Took them 2 miles away and released them in a safe place with some grain and nuts to keep them going!
