toolbox/chest recomendations please.

Im after some tool box storage - 9 drawer type thing , Halfords had some in a sale 6 months ago their Pro range, and it was decent enough quality. Went in today to see what they had and its now basically flimsy ****e.

anyone have some recommendations? whats the US pro stuff that litters ebay like?
and you can forget "Snapon" because im neither made of money or willing to take out a credit plan. Costco stuff is too big till i make the new shed.

Another vote for Halfords industrial boxes, very tough and extremely heavy.

I’ve done the whole roll cab thing from budget right through to Snap On, MAC and Facom and for my purpose I will never look further than Facom again.

They are all good and will last including the Halfords Industry range if you only plan on parking them against a wall and not moving them much.

I do track days so need a box I can load/move and find the wheels on the Facom boxes along with the rubber corner edge pads to be far superior to anything else. This is the reason you will see them used by the mechanics at the airports.

The draw sliders are smooth and solid... not quiet to the same degree as Snap On and MAC mind, but more than good enough.

Halfords have just changed their industrial range. They've added a few things like side cabinets for the roll cab but they're definitely flimsier than the previous ones. Drawer weights down from 35kg to 25kg.

Have a look on eBay for Bott. Usually come out of vans.

You won’t get sturdier draw units.

I think a lot of the cheap boxes are badge engineered and are pumped out of the same factory. Bought this stainless ebay special for about £500 over ten years ago and had no issues at all.

Halfords outlets don't always stock what are actually available in their range. You have to ask and then order it in.

I looked at the new Halfords range and did not like the self closing draws as they needed a good tug to open.

Halfords have offered some decent stuff in the past but not sure about the present range. They don’t seem to be able to make up their minds about whether the better stuff is Professional or Advanced. Also some of their bundles have been more expensive than the sum of the individual boxes!

I like the Canadian Beach Industries boxes if you can fine any or the good old trusty 70's / 80's Snap on, much better made and often cheap used

What’s your budget for it.
By 9 drawers are you looking for a roll cab type thing?
How wide roughly?
It’s very easy to recommend what we have at home but specifics would help hit the nail on the head.
I have an old KRA top box and roll cab from the 90’s.
Bought it second hand from gumtree for the same money as something equivalent new in the Halfords range. Very heavy duty box. Depends if your happy with used.
As mentioned above the facom boxes are excellent but quite pricey. Kennedy used to be good. They are not what they were imo nowadays. Halfords are another where they have deteriorated in quality over what they were a few years ago. Last Halfords box I looked at in store had so much side ways play in the drawers I was sure if I kept pulling on them it was gonna fall to bits
Taskmaster used to make a reasonable budget box from what I remember. Mac boxes were really good too. Silly money when new but because the hype tends to lean towards snap on second hand boxes the macs tend to get left alone and go for really sensible money used.
It’s all speculation until we know what you want to spend.

My roll cab top and middle are Halfords industrial boxes and are the 35kg per drawer version. The last time I was in the local Halfords I had a look at the industrials I agree they are definitely a lot lighter over the ones I have. Also quite a bit up in price too. My boxes do not move far as the workshop has a little step at the door, the box is so heavily loaded you can get the boxes out but getting it back in again is hell in a handbasket.

Iv had a few types from cheap to dear and currently have Draper.
It’s been in the back of the van loose for a long time with a lot of heavy gear in it no issues. Nice firm smooth rollers really strong locks which suprised me. Halfords definitely have become softer boxes as I was gonna buy halfords when buyin my last set up but the shop demo was in bits.
I honestly don’t think it’s take the hardship the draper ones have.
But depends on your budget and use what will suit you
