"Broomwade" - Type AC 25

Can anyone help with the specs on this, what's it's specs, running speed etc.

It's to build a better and relatively quiet compressor say 100ltre for the garage.

Would like to spray and potentially some air tools, what do you recon it would cope with? Obviously need a motor next.

Find AC10 mentioned but not 25's

Have you got any pics? I know ours at home is a Broomwade and it's got 150 SWP daubed across it in white paint so I might be able to help, though granted that's not much to go on! Ours has a 7.5 hp motor....

As luck would have it that looks very similar to ours though I couldn't say if it's exactly the same off the top of my head. Only difference I can immediately spot is ours has 4 Vs for the belts so perhaps it's a bit bigger. Like I say, ours has a 7.5 hp 3ph motor. The receiver's about 6' by 1 1/2' or 2'. I'm afraid I can't be much more help at the moment as it's currently about 100 miles away! Otherwise I'd nip out and look at the data plates for you. Dunno about quiet but it certainly makes a much deeper noise than the smaller MM ones. Altogether more manly!

Yeah there's a lifting eye on ours too. Don't think I'd want to try and pick it up without!

The 2HP motor would be no good for that one, I know where there is one working if I get time tomorrow I`l have a look for you, I think it runs a 5.5hp 3ph I'm quite shure its a AC25 if i remember correctly,Or give CompAir/Broomwade a ring and see if they would be good enough to go to the archives for you.

Looking at the photo the LH cyclinder looks larger than the RHS, is it a 2 stage or is the camera angle confusing things?

I think you can get 3hp single phase, will that have the cahoonies?

Hello Jaeger,

I suspect that 2 h.p. will be too small. My small 50 litre tank compressor has a 3 H.P. and only one Vee belt drive.

You'll just overload the motor if it is undersized.

Some info for you, that AC H25 does have a 4KW/5.5HP motor on it.
The AC18/25 comps had a 3"bore and 3" stroke
min rpm 600 max rpm 950
normal speed AC18 720 rpm, AC25 950 rpm
FAD @100psi AC18 - 11.5 AC25 - 15.2
OD of flywheel 12.5"
Go for the highest HP 4pole single phase motor you can find and gear it to run on the min speed.
type of v belts 2 of type B
Nominal speed of motor 1450

That's great info, seems the Comp was a good en?

I wonder what they did with the motor??

Question - I was going to strip and service the compressor before doing much with it, I've emailed Comp-Air for info, I'll see what comes of it.
Is this oil fed by rotation?
Have found a 4.02hp (3Kw single or 3ph) motor and I'm making enquiries.

Here it is

I've just picked up a petrol driven compressor and I'm a bit puzzled. It was advertised as a Broomwade and looks exactly like the one in the photo above except it has a brass plate as being made by Sellarc - Bateman.

It's powered by what looks a Briggs and Stratton 10-12HP engine - which thankfully looks in excellent condition internally. The cylinder bore is clean and there's no discernible play between the bore and piston. The engine and compressor are mounted together on a plate under which is a low capacity receiver made of pipework formed into a long U shape. The engine doesn't run at the moment due to a wiring fault and the compressor pump, when turned over by hand pressurises the receiver so I'm hoping a service it all that's needed.

Can anyone throw some light on the Broomwade / Sellarc relationship if there is one please?
