Big winds in the US

Since my other half is from Washington DC and half my family is in that area, we tend to take an interest in the path of the Hurricane that looks to wreck havoc in the Carolinas. The family holiday 'patch' on the Chesapeake seems to be far enough away. We hope..
But, what always tickles us, is the reporters that stand in the weather, getting their hair 'disturbed' or even having trouble staying on their feet. I presume it is 'good TV', except they could do a much better job a few yards away in the coffee shop....looking out of the window, in some sort of comfort.

Jet stream at the moment is dragging weather from the East side of US...expect the remains of it here in about 5-10 days

I'd be surprised if those straps make much of a difference if the full force of the storm hits there.

I think it's more of a gamble that the storm won't be that bad. Up to a certain point I expect that sort of strapping will really help to stop wind from lifting up the edge of the roof. If the roof lifts up even a tiny bit, it becomes such a huge sail that even a relatively modest gust could rip the whole thing off. If the storm really is that severe and the wind gets in it, could blow the house apart. Worth the effort I should think.

A box is a really, really strong structure when it is complete, bit like an eggshell. But as soon as the structure is compromised, it becomes incredibly fragile. You can actually notice this when you first open a box of Cornflakes if you are paying attention.

The hurricane has been named Florence, I think they have chosen the name as they have seen the destructive power of my 1 year old Wire Haired Fox Terrier, also named Florence.

I heard a while ago they don't give very common names to the bigger storms because it gives it a negative connotation...

I know two Florences.
