Oak mantle

I just bought a resin mantle. Gorgeous but not cheap.
Excuse the unpainted wall I was in the middle of painting it.

Ive just bought a piece of oak, not quite as hefty as yours and got it planed on a four sided planer for £10 , which would save a lot of work ,also all the shakes/splits are on the under side .
That was in Norfolk though, your location is Narrich, where's that????? or is it Norwich , a miss print. All the Best desmo11225

It's Norwich with the local pronunciation!
£10 sounds good, the wood yard I bought it from wouldn't put it through there machine as they reckon oak damages the blades.
Do you have any contact details for the place that did yours as my job for tomorrow was driving a belt sander.....

My mate made a lovely looking surround out of green oak, 12 months later and it's twisted that much it could be used as the base of a roller coaster.

Well I've sanded and oild it so it's ready to go on the wall, time will tell how much moisture is left in it, it was air dried (allegedly!) When I bought it.

Cheers, I was expecting it to be a horrible job but the belt sander ate it! A quick blast over with a mouse with some fine paper and it was done.

I was going to say this in my last post but I thought I had just thought it up.

There aren't any cracks! There are all full of clear resin and sanded smooth, I must admit I'm quite pleased with the results so far, two coats of Danish oil and it's almost glass smooth.
